I have bouts of sinusitis that's comes on suddenly, I believe several other members get it too. I have just completed a course of my emergency anti biotics. My breathing had been good for a month then started with head pains, lots of mucus and my nose seemed swollen and my gums were sore. I am sorry I don't know what causes it I use a nasal spray on prescription,Fluticsone. Twice a day. maybe your GP could prescribe something that may help. Joyce

I have never heard of sinus emphysema, but will be researching it. I have genetic condition called Primary Immune Deficiency, where my body doesn't make antibodies. Most of us with this have problems with repeated sinus infection and chest infections which eventually leads to bronchiectasis. I am well treated, but my infections nearly always start in my sinuses and then travel down to my lungs. Anyone with bronchiectasis must be checked to see if they have a Primary Immune Deficiency
