Asthmatic son dark circles under eyes

Hello, my son is nearly 5. He takes seretide, twice daily, and montelukast. His asthma is much better, however,he often seems tired and constantly has dark patches under his eyes. He has around 11 hours sleep a night. Ive read allergies can cause this,he does have a dust mite allergy.Im just not sure what we can do for him? He is a fussy eater too and doesn't eat any meat and little dairy.

Poor kid.Sounds like gp needs do more and different tests,he sounds very unwell.Allergy testing will tell you more but can be many different things so general dust & mould free environment essential.Maybe anti histamines too.I’d want answers from medics.Hope he gets help he needs, good luck.🤞

Thanks Fraid, I think I will ask the GP.

Poor guy and also must be tough on you. I totally agree with friad. I would push to get him seen by an allergy consultant. They have so much more specialist knowledge with asthma/allergies and can also help with diet etc which I know can be difficult with small children!

Yes, he has an appointment with consultant coming up, think I'll ask about allergies again.

I don’t know about the sleeping but my son also has dark circles due to dust allergies. When I used this vacuum to kill dust mites it seemed to help the most.

Start a food diary … keep a note of how he is each day.

Just a thought! Have you thought of an independent laboratory allergy testing? My experience is that the consultants' tests are not altogether conclusive, and don't often include the whole gamut of trigger factors. I am currently having a test that is expensive, but is being carried out by an independent laboratory, but at least I shall know what the triggers could be in the way of foods, airbourne pollutants etc. right across the spectrum.

Dark circles are often something that people with asthma have, I believe. I agree with the other replies who advise asking your son’s consultant to look more closely at the dark circles and his level of tiredness. If his asthma is not properly controlled it will make him feel very tired. I hope it’s sorted out soon and he starts to feel better.
