Post-Menopausal bleeding

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and just wondered whether anyone had similar symptoms to me and what the outcome was?

I am 51 years old and had my last period 18 months ago. Prior to this I'd had irregular and heavy bleeding for 4 months. I was diagnosed with fibroids and the consultant found that the fibroids were pushing on my coil. My coil was removed and the bleeding stopped, at my follow up appointment the consultant decided to leave my fibroids as they were not very big and the bleeding had stopped. This all happened in May 2018.

9 days ago, I woke up to find my PJ's soaked in blood. I was able to get an appointment with the GP that day and he referred me to the hospital on the two week fast track route. I continued to bleed for 8 days, heavy on and off with a some small clots. I've been experiencing extreme tiredness for some time now and during the bleeding I had pelvic pain which felt like period pain.

I have an appointment at the hospital for a scan and a hysteroscopy on Tuesday. Today is my first day without bleeding and I am feeling quite good, but now the hospital have called with the appointment, I am really anxious.

I would be really interested to hear from others who have experienced similar symptoms

Thanks for reading this

Hi lovely,

Any unexpected bleeding needs investigating and your doctor is doing exactly what is needed to find the source/cause of your bleed.

Your fibroids may well be the cause of the bleed and the checks they’re doing will give the answer.

I had very similar symptoms, I only had a very small fibroid which was removed easily, I was further on from my menopause. My diagnosis wasn’t simple but that doesn’t mean yours won’t be and I’m still here over 5 years on still causing mischief 🥴

You wouldn’t be normal if you weren’t worried but you have acted really quickly as has your doctor and this can only be a good thing.

Do let us know how you get on, take care.

Hi Jane just wanted to update you on my hospital visit. They didn’t find anything untoward, my fibroids haven’t grown and my womb looks fine. The Nurse, after taking advice from the consultant said it’s probably hormonal and it may never happen again. I’m so relieved but still a bit confused as to why it happened at all?

Hope you are ok and thanks again for caring x

I can imagine your relief, it’s such good news for you I am so very pleased.

I guess we sometimes just have a blip and hope you don’t ever get another one. It’s so important to always be body aware and to act if anything ‘odd’ happens.

I’m good thanks, we’re all here to care. If you need us again at any time just holler.

Love and hugs ❤️Xx Jane

Hi there Dawn,

We are sorry to hear you are having such a stressful time. It sounds as though you have a really efficient GP and hospital gynaecology department.

It sounds as though you are having a scan and hysteroscopy on the same day which is really efficient so it is likely that the hospital team looking after you will be able to give you an idea of what they think is causing the bleeding on that day.

They won’t be able to confirm anything though until they have results from samples they will take at the hysteroscopy.

Your team will be looking to see if the fibroids are causing the problem , or it might be that your womb lining is growing when it shouldn’t be and this could mean you need further treatment.
