Hi I had an ultrasound and transvaginal ultrasound on Friday. I was back home and two hours later my doctor rang to say that he had the results and the ultrasound showed that I had a cyst on my left ovary and thickening if the womb. He told me that. Was being put in the two week referral system. So, I have therefore gone into a tailspin, seriously panicking and in meltdown. I went to the Dr initially because I had an intermittent dragging feeling in my lower tummy. I am 55, periods stopped 3 years ago. I have had no bleeding, just this feeling and some back pain. Suffice to say I am in a state of total panic.....help!

Hi there,
We are so sorry that you are in a tailspin at the moment.
You have a good GP who is following protocols . We always check out thickened womb lining reports on post menopausal women, as in some cases it may indicate a womb cancer starting to develop. So it's important to see a gynaecologist who can check you out further to rule this out , or if treatment is needed, do this in a timely fashion - womb cancer is very treatable if caught early.
Cysts on the ovary are very common and usually innocent - your gynaecologist will be able to talk to you about this too.
Best Wishes
