Hysteroscopy results - scared, confused, pls help!

Hi, I am 34-year-old mum of two lovely daughters. I was diagnosed with early menopause after the birth of my younger one 5 years ago. This January I experienced bleeding for 3 -4 days, which felt like a normal period. However, TVS showed that my endometrial lining is unusually high, and I was recommended for a hysteroscopy.

They found a polyp which was removed and sent for further testing. After the excruciating wait of almost 2 weeks, I just got a call from the consultant's receptionist offering me a follow-up to discuss the results. I asked her if she can just tell me if everything is alright or not because the uncertainty is killing me. But she just replied that she is not qualified to answer that.

I know she is doing her job, but it would be great to convey to the patient that everything is alright or something to that effect. Anyways, what does this mean? Is this normal for the consultant to discuss the reports in-person, or are they usually sent by post if everything is normal? Please help! I am prone to panic attacks, and this is not helping in any way! Thanks xx

Hi there,

Thank you for your message, and we're so sorry to hear that you're feeling panicked about your polyp test results.

Endometrial polyps are not at all uncommon, and are rarely cancerous, although we understand that it's very worrying and we often do think the worst. That's completely natural. Many doctors discuss results in person, and it may be that your consultant wants to go through the test results with you face to face, as it's easier to communicate/explain than in writing. Consultant's receptionists/secretaries are unfortunately not able to give an indication of the results, or may not even know the results, but are just following instructions to book in an appointment with you. We know this is frustrating, as you just want a bit of reassurance until your appointment.

Best Wishes,

Team Eve.

Thank you so much for your detailed reply. This has put me so much at ease. Fingers crossed for the big appointment tomorrow :)

Hope you have had good news. I had to wait for an appointment after a hysteroscopy and so agree that the time seems endless. I had to have further treatment but all worked out well in the end
