Weird bleeding?

Gynae issues for years now 56 and have both bowel and bladder prolapse. Hadn’t had a period since September but early Feb been bleeding for 2 weeks, finally stopped. Now whenever I wee or pooh I bleed from my vagina is this because of the prolapse, fibroids or something else? Don’t want to bother my GP if it’s something normal for woman my age? X

Hi there,

Thank you for your message. We're sorry to hear that you're having a worrying time at the moment. So you're 56 and haven't had a period since September, which indicates of course that you're going through menopause. We say that a woman has gone through menopause or is post-menopausal after she hasn't had a period for 12 months. Your last period before this February bleed was 5 months ago, so it's possible that this latest bleed is a period and part of your menopause. A pelvic prolapse can sometimes cause vaginal bleeding, so that is a possible explanation for your bleeding when going to the toilet. It could also be a cervical erosion (a common condition, not associated with cervical cancer, so please don't panic.) Whatever the reason, it's best to see your doctor for reassurance.

Best Wishes,

Team Eve.
