I am on the contraceptive pill and do not start my in active week until Tuesday (7 day break) however I have started lightly bleeding this weekend and thought this is too early to be the start off my period, I am also having pelvic pain like cramps, It would be impossible that I’m pregnant, does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi there Elle,

Thank you for your message. You might be bleeding a bit earlier than expected if you have taken more than one pill packet back-to-back? It's not uncommon for bleeding to happen in the first few months of being on the pill, so if you haven't been taking it for very long, this could be an explanation. The hormones in the pill can affect the lining of the uterus and cause bleeding if you've been taking the pill for a long time. Taking the pill at different times of the day can sometimes cause spotting/random bleeding. Even factors such as stress can affect bleeding/menstruating. It might be work booking in an appointment to see your doctor/nurse just to check.

Best Wishes,

Team Eve

Hi I have been on the pill for 3 years. I

Still have the blood however it is a brown colour and still not heavy enough to be classed as a period. Im due for my period this Friday. I have recently upped my dose on some medication do you think this could have anything to do with it ?

Hi Elle,

It's difficult to comment on other medication, but the length of time you've been taking the pill and as our bodies change/develop over time could be affecting or changing your menstrual pattern and the colour/heaviness of blood that you are losing. See what's going on after this next period has finished, and we'd advise to go and chat to your doctor just to put your mind at rest.

Best Wishes,

Team Eve.
