Firstly, you have a good GP! They have followed guidelines that tell them that to refer women in to see a gynaecologist under what is called the 2 week wait system if the see something on the cervix that looks unusual ( whether it bleeds on contact or not).
There are a number of reasons for the cervix to look unusual, but it is always good to get checked out. The 2 week wait system is there to help in case there are changes that indicate early cancer so people can be treated early. Most times its nothing to worry about, but always better to check.
