Constant bleeding and brown discharge for months?

Hello,

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place so apologies if not.

I'm really worried and hoping someone can put my mind at rest. I'm 37 (not sure if this is relevant but I'm still breastfeeding my 23 month old a few times a day) My periods returned about 18 months ago and has been regular and the same as they were before I had my baby.

2 months ago I had a internal scan to look for problems relating to ongoing groin pain, it hurt and 2-3 days later I started having lower back pains, dark brown and red bleeding, this was 14 days after my period had ended, it continued until my period arrived and my period was unlike any I have had before, I had days of heavy clots like nothing I have seen before. When my period ended I had 3 days of no bleeding then the brown discharge and bleeding came back (14 days after period started) and it's continued. I'm due my period in a week and I'm so scared about what's going on. The doctor said the scan was clear and because I had a negative smear 18 months they are not worried. They did swabs for infections and blood tests to check my hormones and they were fine so they have put the bleeding down to anxiety because of past painc attack issues but I haven't been anxious about anything for years until I started with this bleeding issue. I am going to go back to the doctors because I'm not convinced they are right. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Thank you,

Kate.

Hello Kate,

Firstly, congratulations on becoming a mum!

Secondly, thank you for getting in touch with us here at Ask Eve.

We understand why this is so worrying for you. It’s good to hear that all your tests so far have come back with a reassuring result. We think that it is a good idea to return to your GP, as anxiety does not induce bleeding, and you report you have not panic attacks for years.

However, if you would like confidential advice by email or phone then please do contact our Eve Appeal nurse specialist on freephone 0808 802 0019 or email nurse@eveappeal.org.uk.

Wishing you well,

Ask Eve Team

Hi,

Thank you! We waited 10 years and had IVF. I still can't believe she is here :)

I will go back and see my doctor tomorrow and update my post, perhaps it will help others because I can't find anyone having similar problems. I think I i will have have to really push for further tests because the doctor was adament there's no need for further investigations and said I'm manifasting the symptoms subconsciously ....not quite sure what to make of That, hopefully I can see someone different and at least get a referral to gyno.

Thanks for your reply and the contact number :)

Kate.

I went back to my doctor and he said my cervix looks healthy so they can't do a smear because I had one 18 months ago. He said it's disfunctional uterine bleeding. My period arrived a week early and was much lighter than the last, no clots etc. Will update if the bleeding returns in a (week like the last 2 cycles)
