Groin node removal

Hi friends, I have been diagnosed with squamous cell of vulva. Had lichen scelrosus. Cancer has been cut out, by wide local excision. Doctors want to do bilateral groin node dissection, but as just a small chance cancer gone there, I wish to wait and see.

Has anyone had groin node dissection? Internet listing makes depressing reading. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks to all.

Hi Monica1,

Thank you for getting in touch with Ask Eve about your concerns.

We wondered whether it would help to talk to our specialist gynaecological cancer information nurse Tracie at Ask Eve at all? We have lots of experience of this situation, and it is likely that the cancer cells were close to edges of the skin that was removed (doctors call this the “margin”) and in this situation the groin node dissection is indicated.

If it would be helpful and reassuring, we could discuss your individual situation in confidence either over the telephone on freephone 0808 802 0019 or via email nurse@eveappeal.org.uk

We look forward to hearing from you.

All the best,

Ask Eve Team
