Anyone else has knee replacement and it’s made things worse?? My Mum had her op about 2 and a half years ago and she’s stu in pain
The knee is very swollen and the skin is shiny and looks very tight
It almost looks as though they’ve put too big a knee replacement in there ! Consultant not too helpful I’m afraid and doesn’t know why!! She’s supposed to be having the other one done but thishas totally put her off
Hi LizDav2321, Sorry to hear about your mum but glad to know I am not alone. Its just over two and a half years since I had my op. What age is your mum? , nothing personal but they say that they are now realizing that older persons muscles don't return to normal like younger people. I have been left with several extra issues plus the original pain just like your mum and I have had other treatment since the op to try and improve things. I would love an independent appraisal but no consultant would be open even if something had gone wrong, I speak from experience. It would be nice if we could have a forum for people who have suffered further pain to no avail. If you would like to message me with any questions I am willing to expand on my experience privately as it seems these poor outcomes are not being acknowledged only the good results. Best wishes
My Aunt had knee replacement and she couldn’t even walk or bend her knee it was an awful year or so for her before the surgeon decided to go back into the knee for a look and was SHOCKED she was filled with an infection and prior to looking they did blood test after the shock he got bloodwork immediately and she was severely anemic SEVERE its a wonder she has been so ill and unable to use her new knee…. Corrected both issues and she is doing much better….I still question why it took over a year to find this issue… crazy maybe infection could be your issue.
Forum for knee replacement would be great….I’m 14 weeks post op TKR on left knee had MUA still can’t bend it, still swollen, still going through Physio, still being told they will get me to 90 degrees, still VERY fatigued - no pain but now being told I may need patella resurfacing. Some days I’m up some days I’m down don’t really know where to go from here.
I live outside the UK but travelling home to UK in 3 weeks for a 7 week vacation don’t know how I’m going to cope on plane, stairs, housework, walking etc etc
Gosh your travel plans will be a challenge but I guess you will know how to manage all this. And if it’s a vacation you can forget the housework for a start! Just take it as easy as you can.
hello I had a half knee replacement done several years ago and still had pain afterwards. My orthopaedic surgeon told me that despite replacing the cartilage there was still arthritis in it so whilst it was much easier to walk I still had pain. Maybe she should ask for a referral to a rheumatologist and hopefully get treatment there? I’m assuming she did a rigorous exercise program after her surgery? As I was warned if I didn’t do it then the knee would seize up and the replacement would not work
hi, so sorry about your knee, I can relate to very painful knee. Plus painfully sore thigh as well🙄🙄.
I fell very forcefully out of bed, broke my thigh, cracked my hip and had emergency surgery, my surgeon was amazing fitted a titanium rod through my knee fixed with two screws and fixed other end to my hip with one screw.
He said it looked like my thigh had been in a car crash.
Painful now for probably three quarters of a year till it heals. My knee is very painful and even strong pain relief struggles to ease it.
Think only thing is to keep using it, I find sitting down or lying in bed makes it more uncomfortable. I do hope your knee feels more comfortable soon.I’m 75, but always been very active. It’s dreadful being incapable of doing things I loved.
