Ceramic hip

As a newcomer to this group could I request some help! Recently informed I have OA in right hip. Just met consultant who recommends replacement ceramic hip joint, does anyone have experience or guidance for a quite surprised 54 year old guy not expecting this!

Had ceramic hip 4months ago. Recovery good, back to exercise with greater range of movt and no pain. Put op off for a while. Saw first consultant when I was 57 had op at 66. Should have taken advice earlier!

Hi, I'm new here regarding RA but can speak about ceramic THR no problem. I had my first hip replaced at 48 and second one 2 years later. Both are doing well in spite of me falling hard on the first one some 3 times since having it! There isn't that much information as to the longevity of these hips, but as you can see, I'm coming up to 10years, which is usually the conservative life given to them, I'm hoping for much longer, I am aware of the first one, never was quite such a good fit! And have a bursitis on it, but that's a small to price to pay for the relief I have had since having them.

The hope is, ceramic knits better with the bone so should last longer and hasn't got the side effects of the metal possible leaking into the system.

Most important thing... do as your guided, make sure you take the time to heal you are told to, and do the exercises even though they may seem very mild, they need to be, and do work... and take the painkillers, they are there so you can do the exercises and you can heal through it.
