Foot Arthritis

I have arthritis of the foot, but the specialist said it wasn't in the ankle. Yet the ankle is puffy and hurts so I've been taking Naproxen 250 mg three times a day. It doesn't seem to help. Are there any other anti-inflammatory drugs out there that would lessen the pain and slight swelling?

Naproxen didn't help me alot either. I was told if it didn't I'd have to go to the celebrex witch is very expensive. I have arthritis in my feet as well . My mid foot area hurts the most and has for the past 2 years now. This winter mine started in my ankles along with another knot on my right side so now I have one on my big right toe joint and right ankle joint as well. My right side seems to be the worst for me so far. I hope you get so.e relief soon sookie. It's hurts I know. Jason

Thanks JD for the reply. It's horrible to have arthritis in the feet, isn't it since we walk all the time and feel never-ending pain. My mid foot area also hurts the worst too.

Exercises help a bit, and I'm going to physio at the end of this month to learn more procedures.

Here's hoping you get some relief too. I don't know why drugs (celebrex) are so expensive for people in pain. I saw some Australian arthritic relief pain cream for $32! Big business with bigger profits is the name of the game. (jaded comment)

Did you get your wheelchair yet?

Hey Sookiedee , I just got home from work a few minutes ago. Yes it is painful to have arthritis in your feet. Mine gets to the point it puts tears in my eyes on my bad days. To answer your question about if I had ordered a wheelchair as of yet or not. I haven't gotten around to ordering the wheelchair as of yet. I go to my GP next week for my yearly. My shoulders and knees have been painful as well as my feet too, speaking of arthritis in the feet. My toes were bothering me the other day last week. Mine keeps moving around on me. Like I told you in my first response to you I hope you find some relief soon. I'm still looking for relief. If you find it send some my way as well. It's been a painful winter for me this year thank goodness for warmer temps coming in now. I just got off my feet for awhile to give them a rest. I still feel at this point that I am going to need a wheelchair. I have all idea that next winter will be worse than this one was for me. This winter was worse than last winter for me. As of right now I'm not taking anything for my pain right now. Talk with you soon Sookikdee. Jason

JD, I'm going to ask my doctor about Tapentadol (brand names: Nucynta, Palexia, Tapal) the next time I go in.

It's for treatment of moderate to severe pain. Haven't checked on the side effects yet.

I definitely need to look into options for treatment myself. Mine gest worse while I'm active. I need to move around I know . I'm only the most comfortable while I'm resting. Standing all day doesn't help me either. Baring weight on my feet , knees and hips just hurts like the devil anymore. So the question is what do I or should I do? Jason

I'm at a moderate stage right now. But I have days that I hurt pretty bad. I'm going to have to figure out what to do with mine . Even with the warmer temps today I was pretty achy in my knees lower back and feet today. I'm also getting that warm sensation in the sides of my right leg, not sure if that has to do with my lower back or something else. One of the reasons I was considering a wheelchair was some days I tire out very quickly do to my arthritis and other times I just hurts to bad time be putting pressure on my joints, especially with my hips and knees anymore. . Plus if I'm worse by this coming winter I don't think I'll be able to get through a days work with the way my feet and knees have been. Take care sookiedee. Jason

I'm so sorry for all the pain you have been suffering JD. Just wish you lived in Arizona instead of a chilly climate. I'm thinking of you and take care,

Sookie

Oh JD, I feel for you and hope the warm weather comes fast. Here in England we have that damp cold which goes right through you - we're thinking in the future to go back to a warmer place like the Carolinas.

I'll let you know if I find a good pain medication and take care of yourself,

Sookie

Hi sookiedee The best anti-inflammatory i have found having ankylosing spondylitis is indocid (indomethacin) suppositories

My last appointment was the first time my consultant examined and admited that I had RA on my feet but it's to late now 2 years to late as the damage has been done as with my other joints as I need a biologic now but as I'm to tired to make my point with her, I'll consentrate on the battle ahead. I know we are the patient but all too often they don't listen to what's going on in our bodies

in reply to popsmith1874

I really agree with that statement - we ARE the patient, and they DON'T seem to listen in the way we want them to until it's too late.

Thanks Brad for that information - really appreciate it!

All the best, Sookie

Stop taking Naproxem it's poison. My husband has took it long term and it has given him long term kidney problems. In May he was admitted to hospital suspect Heart Attack. The cause was an internal bleed brought on by anti inflammatories and only now the doctors are telling us that they are not good

Hi, I have long since stopped taking Naproxem, but thank you for the warning. I'm sorry about your husband, and hope life gets better for him. One just doesn't realize all the side effects these pills have, and the doctors sometimes don't have a clue until it's too late.

I have recently been diagnosed with arthritis of the mid-foot. It came on suddenly and is very painful when I walk. Although I have had a problem with my foot for over 45years, but there has been no pain, just the occasional limp and stiffness. My GP referred me to a Consultant who has suggested in-soles for my shoes and a possible steroid injection. As a last resort I could be offered a foot fusion. I have researched this and am discounting it because it sounds horrific and is not always successful.

Does anyone have any experience that they can share with me? I am my husband Carer so this problem is causing me a real problem.

Yes this is exactly my problem. I had the insoles, the steroid shot and the surgeon didn't recommend fusion. I do 'stretching the calf' exercises twice a day, losing weight, and practically live in thick heeled tennis shoes.

So sorry you're having this also, and I can't believe that fusion is the ONLY solution the doctors can come up with. I'm still researching for new data that is less intrusive than fusion.
