Feel like this is all in my head...

Hi all, I'm 25 years old... I am seeing a rheumatologist... He thinks I have psoriatic arthritis... or fibromyalgia....

He has put me on methotrexate whitch I start next week. I kind left my appointment feeling lost and the pain is all in my head.

Can you have both psoriatic arthritis and fibromyalgia at the same time?

Should ask for and MIR as my X rays are clear?

Hi Cherrr,

Thanks for your post. If you did not leave your rheumatologist feeling like you have had your questions answered then make an appointment to see them again. If you are still not happy ask for a second opinion or go back to your GP. If you believe you need an MRI then ask for one, whats the worst that can happen? At Arthritis Action we encourage people to be assertive and polite with medical professionals to get the service that you deserve. We discuss this at our Self Management Events, see if we have one coming up near you and get in touch: goo.gl/NMg4Kx.

Thanks,

Georgia

Hi

yes you can hAve fibromyalgia aswell as arthritis. I was diagnosed with both in February. I'm now on sulfasulizine, amitripyline, naproxen and all sorts of vitamins, minerals and anything that people say will help. It's hard to get your head around everything. I struggle daily with things and still think 'why me' we just have to be strong and survive this xx

Hi - I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis earlier this year and neither that or fibromyalgia suggest that the pain is in any way in your head so please don't think that. It sounds like they think you may have an inflammatory cause behind the pain which the methotrexate will hopefully be able to tackle to reduce the inflammation and therefore the pain that you're experiencing.

That said I do find that stress can really exacerbate my arthritis symptoms so I try to keep that to a minimum, although easier said than done I know!

One of the issues with psoriatic arthritis is that it doesn't always show up easily on the usual tests. My x-rays are also clear (which I'm taking as a good thing!) and whilst I did have an MRI on the joint worse effected to be honest it didn't really tell them much.

Good luck with the methotrexate and do follow up with the rheumatologist if you're not happy or if what they are proposing re treatment is not clear. You really shouldn't be left feeling its all in your head, it isn't!

Hi, sorry U have this so young , I to had suspected fibromyalgia but asked for MRI

confirmed it was psoriatic arthritis, about to start methotrexate . Just because

people can't see your pain does't mean it's all in your head I know how real it can

be. I use a wheat germ pack U can heat in microwave for two min's really helps at

night when trying to seep. Hope this helps.
