Coming off antipsychotic meds two years post PP

I’m phisically and mentally exhausted most of the time at the moment and it’s only just occurred to me that I am still on heavily sedated antipsychotic medication! (Quetiapine 500mg) along with two ssri’s for anxiety & low mood. I’m wondering why I haven’t been asked to come to a sort or meds review or something? Or is it me that is supposed to keep track of these things? Time goes by and I’m still on the same meds- what is the process supposed to be? When did you come off your antipsychotics? Is it normal that I reach a point with just no energy? I realise having a toddler is phisically and mentally draining but I used to work with adults with challenging behaviour and have a tonne more energy!

I’m grabbing at sugary carbs because of this lack of energy and I have put on 4lb in the last four weeks! I need this to stop!

Hi Claire

I'm really sorry that you're physically and mentally exhausted most of the time. I think you should have an ongoing care plan and would contact your GP asap who perhaps will refer you for professional support.

I'm not sure if the choice and medications site might be helpful? The link for Quetiapine is choiceandmedication.org/ncm.... If you find the page and click on the question 'How long will I need to take Quetiapine for?' this will bring you to drop down info. If you then click on 'psychosis' in the text this gives info on antipsychotics.

It must be very draining to feel exhausted. Trying to cope with a toddler and routine at home can't be easy so please take good care of yourself. I hope you won't have too long to wait for the help you need.

Hi Claire

I was on quartiapine for a year following my Pp and then I was decreased very slowly. Do you still have peri natal worker as they should be able to see you and help with the reductions. I was reduced very slowly 50mgs at a time every three weeks to a month so it took about six no the to get there. The sugar cravings are the worst along with feeling exhausted all the time. I know having a toddler is tiring but it does get better. Wishing you all the best Marie x
