Did anyone else see colours really vividly, or think they had significance, during psychosis? Does anyone know why it happens?

Hello Mirrorball

I would definitely say this is really common, from talking to many women who have had PP, and reading posts on here. Why it happens I am not sure but I will try and find out for you.

I thought you may be interested to read this thread which basically asked exactly the same thing :)

Hope this is helpful,

Hi Mirrorball, with my Psychosis I couldn't see colours vividly like you have experienced but I associated colours with different meanings. For example, red was danger, black was death, blue was medical and white was heaven. I'm not sure why this happens but I believe that this sort of thing is common with psychosis. Hope that helps xx

I did the same thing. Black was death and white was heaven but for me red was love! So strange!

Hi Mirrorball, I'm the lady that started the original thread about colours as they had special significance to me. The only explanation I've read is that in society we associate different colours with different things e.g warning signs are red as it is s very vivid colour (like blood). Even Disney puts all their heroines in blue dresses - a very pure colour. I'm glad you found the original thread interesting. X

Yes! I’ve had 2 episodes of psychosis and both had color significance! I’m an artist and love color so I thought that might be part of it? Interesting question.

I’m a creative and musical person so I wondered whether it was just that part of my personality coming out. Interesting that others had the same experience.

My mom once put it as creative madness! Haha that’s one way to put it. Such a small percentage of people truly know what psychosis is like. It makes us very special!

Hello Mirrorball

Like Bravesurvivor2 , I paint too.

I was kept in seclusion for many days when sectioned in hospital and played out scenarios and my past. I remember being involved in a game collecting points in order to gain back my freedom...very similar to the Italian film, "life is beautiful"...

Colours are of great significance to me, but my visualisation has been of a different kind when poorly reflecting on people and hearing things. Whether colours have been of great significance in a symbolic, metaphoric way, I do not remember!

My brain had shut down on many levels in the first year and flash backs are still recurrent nowadays!...such as the cover of the new mattress...I am extremely hyper with my senses...but convert it into positive experiences...creativity on many levels.

Thus, I use colours therapeutically nowadays and it makes me very happy. :-)

Bye for now,

x

Yes, I too experienced significants with colors. I was in 3 different hospitals within almost 3 months back in 2012 for ppp. I remember being transported from the 2nd hospital to the 3rd and during being transported there was nothing but white cars surrounding us the whole time. I felt a sense of peace come over me like God was telling me everything is going to be ok. During the hospital stay I also thought yellow or gold to be very positive. So I wore a yellow or gold shirt if I wasn’t wearing it I wrapped it around my head. I never told anyone about this and it feels good to see there are others who thought similar things.

I also wore certain colours and kept moving things in m room into rainbow order. I also thought God was giving me signs. It’s so strange what PP can make you do and think! It’s interesting to hear about others having similar experiences.

Yes, I experienced this. Not only were colours significantly more vivid and brighterwhen I saw an animal or something in nature like a plant, every detail was enhanced!! The sun was like 10 times brighter, and i remember seeing a shiny 5 pence piece on the floor and looking at it with such awe!! i was like WOW would you look at that, every one else just saw the coin but to me it shone like a diamond!! This is one of the things from my episode that actually I would like to have kept, to be able to see the world with all that beauty!!!
