Eclampsia scare

I lost my son August 2010 at 28 weeks. I had severe ceasars and went into a coma for four days. When I woke up I discovered that my son died on that Monday. I woke up Thursday! God blessed me that I didn't die but I was devastated that I never saw my baby. Now three years later, my husband and I want to try to have a baby off birth control now and getting ready for baby #4 but I'm scared! Help!

Sorry to hear of your loss. I had an eclampic fit in May 1990 when 31 weeks pregnant. I had been unwell for 24 hours with an upset stomach and a very bad headache. A locum doctor had not picked up on the symptoms and suggested I take half a paracetamol. Luckily after an emergency ceasarian my daughter weighed in at 2 lb 10oz (1.1kg) and survived. She is now 23 and has asthma but no other problems. We were clearly both lucky. Since then there have been trials with taking low dose aspirin. I was scared to have any more children but medicine has moved on a lot. With careful monitoring it could be worth trying again. I certainly know a lot more about pre eclampsia now having been a member of APEC for 20+ years. Good Luck.

Dear S Edwards, I am so sorry to hear of your loss and the awful experience you have had. If you would like to chat about things please do call me on the APEC Helpline - 0208 427 4217 or email me at info@apec.org.uk

Talking may help to reduce your stress a little also I'd like to know whether you feel you are being well supported by your health care team etc. I may also be able to put you in touch with others who've been in a similar situation. You could also post on our Facebook page as lots of women are very active on there and I am sure you will get lots of support. I look forward to hearing from you. best wishes Ann Marie, APEC

Thank you all for your comments. I believe that now that I know so much more of the symptoms I will be able to deal with it much better. It's been three years now and I just got off depo so my body will take some time to even get ready to be pregnant again. I definitely will monitor myself and do keep a close eye on EVERYTHING this time and Ms. Ann Marie, APEC I will be giving you a call and taking you up on your offer. I will keep you all informed. Thank you again.
