Do I have depression as well?

I know this is a site for anxiety but I heard depression and anxiety often come hand in hand. So sometimes I cry for no reason and I feel so sad sometimes and I don't know why! I also can't get to sleep very well and I'm tired all the time.

Hi,the two go hand in hand,I often feel exactly like you and when you cry,it is always for a reason,if only a release mechanism.Find a group, ask your Doctor, it is working for me,simply talking helps, try it,take care.

The two go together. My doctor has struggled to work out what is my primary problem. He thinks that it is the anxiety which has triggered off the depression. But it can be the other way around too.

Hi milly,

I've been asking myself the ysame question. I keep crying, having trouble sleeping and have no motivation to do thing I used to enjoy. My daily routine which kept me focused has gone out the window. I know exactly how you feel and it is dreadful.

All I can suggest is that you speak to your GP about how you are feeling and I do hope you feel better soon. Xxx

There is a chance you are suffering from both, as they often go hand in hand. I use a short phrase when I am with clients which is:

"In the past lies depression, in the future anxiety"

Sometimes when we reflect on the past we don't think about how well we have done, or consider everything we achieved. We often consider what we 'should' have done better. Likewise when we consider the future we might imagine the worst case scenario, and think "What if...?"

When we are feeling anxious it is usually due to an overestimation of the threat of a situation; coupled with an underestimation of our own ability to cope.

I try to encourage people to live in the here and now and teach them some mindfulness techniques and breathing exercises. This helps them to become more aware of their thinking and together we look at ways of challenging the thinking and altering the behaviours that help maintain the way they feel.

Some of my clients have found this site useful in the past.

Take care
