Are there any oldies (over 80s) like myself who have bouts of anxiety and panic?,

Is it the fears surrounding older age and all the disadvantages and infirmatives it can bring or anxiety no matter what the age. Ive always been rather anxious and sometimes a bit panicky but got by! I guess lonliness is a factor to be considered too. From cotonroad .

I,m 62 and did not think older people felt like this.I always worried or made worries up but in then last couple of years it has got worse.Have you got family?I already worry about when I am older.Lonliness to me could be a factor.

Yes I have a family who are very helpful and kind but the last thing I want is to be a worry to them so I keep myself going and 'up' as much as possible. I do have some Mirtazapine to help the anxiety and try to keep busy. The dog is a mixed blessing because although he gets me walking he also doesn't like being left at home alone, (like his 'Mum') Fortunately I'm still fairly active, do all the housework etc.I'm not a great TV person but love music. I knit, use my computer, run one small group once a month. . But it can still be lonely and I dearly wish I had a partner or someone to share my life with. Don't worry you are young yet and will cope with the time when it comes, we all do despite our fears. With Love cotonroad. .

Bless you , i am not over 80 , but just had to say I dont think this anxiety has a age limted

Keep on the & keep getting support

Thank you so much , this site has been a great support and its surpirising to know so many are in the same 'boat' young or old, anxiety can touch us all. We should all give one another a hug and the world would be a happier place. Love from cotonroad

72 and very distressed w anxiety and ocd. Just have to live through it.

I had a fairly good day yesterday and went to bed feeling more positive but I did dream a lot and this morning woke with a blackness and am so disappointed. I wonder if its the SAD syndrome or just part of the anxiety. I take 30mg Mitazapine at night. From cotonroad

Hi Cotonroad,

I think it could be a mixture of both, they do feed one another.

You seem a very young 80 ish person, and you do your best to keep busy, which is very admirable. I am 65, fortunately I have a good family, but most of all a good group of friends, where we arrange outings and have many hobbies together.

I dislike being stuck in the house, and love the outdoors that really lifts me.

I wish you well and hope the sunshine's on you soon. Eunice

Thanks for your reply I certainly do quite a lot for my age and try to keep up with technoloy. My family a very helpful too and not far away. My dog is company but I can't leave him for long he is sick and distressed (takes after me!) so I am not able to go out as much as I would like, but I walk him and also take him in the car, he's okay in there so musn't grumble. The last year has been very difficult for me as I have been doing my best for my 89 year old brother-in-law whio died recently, also had some disruptive plumbing work in the house so I have become a bit 'worn down' and thats when anxiety seems to take hold. I too have a dog, don't know what I would do without him ,forces you to go out.I lived alone for three years after my husband died and now have a lovely partner, when I was on my own I was not so much lonely( I worked at the time) but missed just making small remarks to anyone, just things like about the weather or something maybe on the news,no one to fall out with(lol)I used to fall out with my dog,no one to discuss things with,It is great you keep up with technology.

Hiya Cotonroad

From my experience of anxiety, I find anxiety nearly always flares up if I have been in contact with a very negative or repugnant person. Unfortunately, the world is full of those types and I have never really been able to deal with sickly-minded people save to just walk away.

Sometimes we are forced into having to deal with this kind, and it is at those times I find myself very stressed.

Also, some medication can provoke anxiety . And certainly isolation can be a struggle for lots and lots of people.

Thank you so much for your post.

Have a good day,

Sincere best wishes,

Swan : )

Hi Cotonroad

Age as they say is just a number :) but we all function on thoughts and feelings and regardless of age we can hit some low spots.

I agree that loneliness is a curse and it helps to sit and chat vent your feelings or jusdt get some support

. Thats why i love coming to this site there are so many loving people that can relate to what your feeling.

Sending big hugs and best wishes Bless You xxx

Its been a difficult day with anxiety quite high but that so often happens on these holiday breaks when on feels even more alone.I woke up this morning after a night of what seemed to be vivid dreams and felt shaky and anxious all day. I wonder if the Mirtazapine can cause this. Golly, I really don't know what tablets help the most. Big hugs to you, it helps XX coton road
