i am 23 student. I have always been a worrier, from as far back as i can remember. Since i started university every year something happens to trigger my anxiety. The symptoms spiral out of control and often i become depressed from the overwhelming feeling of not being able to eat properly or sleep. My anxiety really affects my digestion, i feel sick all the time, and if the nerves get particularly bad i will vomit. I find it hard to eat when i get into panic mode, naturally being skinny this has a negative effect on my confidence and i feel worried about getting even skinner. Each year the trigger is different so dealing with the so called "problem" doesnt seem to work. Each year i overcome the anxiety after a few hard months but it always comes back, my body is so accustomed to the feeling it goes into autopilot. My anxiety is impacting my relationships and my confidence. I have nearly dropped out of my course several times despite being a good student and having never failed in my life. i am on constant edge that i will fail.

I have been to acupuncture and recently they told me that hyponosis might help.Unfortunately these therapies are really expensive. I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions.

Hi, I am sorry to hear you have been suffering so much and for so long. There are lots of things you can do yourself and you also need support, starting with your GP, then check out the therapies that Anxiety UK offer to see if they are affordable.

You can practice hypnosis yourself using CDs, mp3s or Apps which are far less expensive than going to someone and often just as good.

I would also suggest you check out your local library (if you like or have the concentration for reading) for the simplest most reader-friendly books on overcoming anxiety/panic and on CBT.

Just a few ideas to get you thinking, that have worked for me in the past. I am sure you can get on an even keel because you say you can for intervals, and you need to tackle it from a few angles in my opinion. Wishing you all the best x

Hello,I recently spoke to a nurse who once suffered panic attacks. She advised breathing exercises and said they really work if you stick with them. She no longer suffers.I had my first attack this week, horrible, frightening and confusing.I think positive thoughts to fight the demons,i have permanent butterflies but can cope with that.Stay busy, try not to think about it,many people I know have beaten this god awful condition,i will and you will also.

Hi one things which helps me is tapping, it has a name but I can't remember it. A nurse in a&e told me about it when I was there for one of my several heart traces.

Basically you tap certain parts like your collar bone or eye socket, several times while repeating a helpful phrase. The nurse said it interferes somehow with signals thru your nervous system and interrupts panic.

It sounds like nonsense but it does really help me and gives me something to concentrate on. You can even do some areas in public eh on your hands, to keep you calm.

Hope it helps. Like you, I an always on the lookout for practical strategies cos for me one thing doesn't work in all situations.

Random results from anxiety attack/panic disorder? I think you better go see your doctor and tell him all of this. There are known symptoms of anxiety and panic disorder.
