Hi yes I was diagnosed through an endoscopy last year my dad had died and they put down my nausea loss of weight burning rib pain etc to my anxiety but I knew there was more to it x its playing up again I feel like there's pressure under my ribs x I'm sure you'll be fine I didn't have a sedative as I like to feel in control all part of my anxiety but most people I know have had a sedative the staff are very good they know people are nervous and are very kind x the one thing that surprised me was how quick the procedure was x hh can be controlled through medication and diet unfortunately mine is a pain I'm at hospital Monday to see about repairing it x I hope this helps you'll be fine good luck and let us know how you get on x enjoy your day x love donna x

Hi Donna, My very large hiatus hernia was diagnosed by endoscopy. The 1st one I had was when it was relatively small & I had a numbing throat spray. I had a horrendous reaction to it since it contains Lydocain which they didn't tell me about. The 2nd one I took without medication or sedatives. I truly hope I never need another one.

I'm interested to find out if you got yours repaired 9 months ago. My GP won't entertain it & just up's the dose of Omeprozol which is damaging my bones. I'v had a confirmed fractured rib on the right side & I'm pretty sure it's happened again of the right. OK medicine might be the cheaper option but what about the pain & deterioration in the patient? False economy I feel.

Your very welcome its so scary when you feel so ill I ended up in a & e twice last year the chest pain etc was horrendous I was very scared so when I eventually had my endoscopy and was diagnosed with hh all the pieces fell into place I did lots of research and realised it wasn't me imagining it when you suffer with depression or anxiety everything is pinned down to that x its bad enough having a physical illness but add to that anxiety and its very hard x don't worry I'm sure its nothing serious it does seem a long wait I've had to wait 12 weeks for my gastro app be nice to afford to go private x if you need to talk or ask any advice i will try and help I'm no hh expert but its nice to talk to someone who shares the same problem x you tc x try and enjoy weekend x love donna x

Hi im due a endoscopy on the 8th march which im terrified of, ive insisted on general anesthetic cos im just too nervous. ive been having problems for the last two to three years. can tottally relate to feeling sick all the time its awful, i suck ginger travel sweeets from holland and barrat which helps a little. stomach cramps, burping, farting, coliky pain all day and night, feel like im gonna throw up when i have a poo, just sick of it all and hope its nothing serious cos i just cant take it. thinking of you. x

I'm sorry ur so scared ,I feel that way too,and when I get my date I'm going for the sedative and the throat spray,I don't want it done but I hav to find out wats going on,my life is awfull at the mo

yes - I recently have started experiencing being breathless. Had an endoscopy about 18 months ago which only confirmed which they had done years before that I had a hiatus hernia. Over the last years things have escalated and I am in more pain which makes me feel very debilitated and low mood.

i know how you feel. i have had my hh for years now and the nausea is awful.Reminds me of morning sickness but at all times of the day. The pain when it comes is at the top of the stomach as if someone has punched you .i find it worse when i dont eat. i get the nausea which sweeps over me followed by hot sweats and pain. Unfortunately i have Barretts Oesophagus as well and have an endoscopy every 2yrs where they check the hh as well. I cant be put out at our hospital as no doctor there so have throat spray. It tastes of banana and although the procedure is not nice you recover a lot quicker. I only take omeprazole.Nobody has ever offered surgery.I think it depends how large it is.Good luck for the future.x

hi ive just been told i have a 2cm sliding hiatus hernia im scared of the oesophagus cancer risk after reading risks on Google. I just have a lump feeling in the throat like food is there from last night . no bad symptoms so i dont take meds. How big is you hernia? Did hiatus hernua cause your barrets oesophagus? I'm scared how do i avoid it? Maybe you had other problems that caused yours? Is hiatus hernia common?
