How do you cope with negative thoughts.?

Bit of a setback as am going back to work on Monday and have a hospital app on Wednesday. Felt quite good for a few days, appetite came back and sleeping better but yesterday felt anxious and the negative thoughts came back and I felt quite down.

How does anyone else cope with negative thoughts, keep saying to myself 'just do today', all the worries I can do nothing much about sneak back in and it is hard work fighting them.

Have a look through Veronica Walsh's CBT Blog Site. There's some exercises you can work through there that may be helpful.

Thanks for this, I have printed off one of her sheets to try and use and also did a relaxation exercise which was good.

Hi Boater. It sounds like you have taken some positive steps in the past few days. Sorry to hear anxiety has raised its ugly head again. :(

I have a few things I do when I feel anxiety/have horrible thoughts as there a number of things that seem to bring me 'back down to earth' as I say. I pick up my phone and read the 'dog shaming' website (very simple I know but I laugh so much at the pictures I forget I am worrying) I go and give my dog a huge cuddle, it always snaps me out of it and he's such a happy mutt :) When it comes to horrible thoughts however I literally jump up, make myself a cup of tea wherever I am and get on with something, whether this is tidying my desk at work or cleaning the kitchen at home. I really try to get my brain engaged in something, and I always feel better by the end of it because I've re-organised wherever it is i'm tidying - two birds one stone :)

this is so true mandy26 i know that to be busy and keep the mind occupied i have soooo much i have to do but with the depression n change in my circumstances(hate change dont cope good with that,think a lot on here like that) anyway at mo am struggling to get out of bed and get doing what i know wll help. Its knowing how to get over that hurdle which has happened to me many times. I tell myself in the mornings get get up do somethin you'll feel better but not happening at mo.

Going to docs tmrw so we will see wat she says but am sure apart from getting of the wine as know that is working against me i need therapy .want to try CBT its a vicious circle, cycle isnt it but you seemed to have done well to make ur self get up and do something espec for the negative thoughts. as we all seem to have them mine are terrible also. I will keep telling myself wat ur saying as like u said when u have finished u do feel better for the accomplishment. Thankyou for that and to all on here i dont post alot as am new feel shy but helps me a lot to read. thx again. dont know how to get them cute smileys on here ha! ..........
