hello

always tried to find a non-medication form of battling anxiety.

my daily regime is magnesium, vitamin B complex (holland and barretts).

i bought them and use them because the customer or news reviews on them from say amazon were very good.

they work to a small degree. if looking for a herbal remedy, you should try them or check out the reviews.

5 htp (from healthspan), doctors suntheanine or gaba (amazon),

they are herbal, so give them a try to see if you feel better. look at the healthspan website and read the customer reviews. never felt the panic or racing heart when taking them.

I started taking 5-HTP 3 weeks ago and I do think it's helping. I am finding that generally my mood is better than before and I can cope with stress better.

It does cause an increase in the hormone cortisol which is a problem for some people, I really couldn't say whether that is related to panic attacks but I don't suffer with these anyway ......I did notice an increase in heart rate a bit at first after taking one but that has settled now.

I think that there is not a lot known about the long term effects etc and it's very much a personal choice .....but at the moment I feel that I need a bit of help but didn't want to go back on Citalopram.

hi.

the 5 htp I use is from healthspan, purchased them after read the rave reviews.

Which place do you buy your 5-htp from and what is the dosage?

I am trying to find out about anxiety medication, in case , I feel that is my last resort.

Citalopram - is that a good anxiety med for general anxiety?

I tried everything in my years of suffering (i mean EVERYTHING) from herbal remedies to hypnotism to rieki.... in the end I went to the doctor ,swallowed my fear and pride, took antidepressants and cbt and my journey to health began..........what keeps me well is i changed my thinking, Let go my ego, realised that life just happens and no matter how we kid ourself on, we cannot control life, influence it sometimes but Never control it. It is going to happen so we have to learn to stop trying to control and accept.....ACCEPTANCE is more powerfull than any drug. But that is just me...we all take our own path........I wish you well on your journey....God guide and bless you..x

hi, i think we all anxiety sufferers follow this path, trying to find everything under the sun to rid us of anxiety.

I have had CBT years ago, and I know the anxiety stems from my own thoughts, so working hard on new behaviours and thinking.

But, recently, gone to the doctor and got propanolol but, found not effective enough, and trying to hold off going onto the serious anxiety medication.

What medication or methods are you using and is it safe or any side effects?

I thought I should mention that after all my "searching" i took 20mg esitalopram which helped tremendously, so much so that I am now on 10mg.........To give others hope three years ago I came out of hospital on 800mg/day of drugs after what i call a breakdown.....there is always hope....although when you are in that position you don,t believe its possible.......I am well because with the help of meds/cbt/a good psychiatrist/good friends and talking about it... I managed to change my thinking to understand whats really important in life......I wish you all the same....xxx. Hope this gives some hope to those who suffer....x

I Like these ideas, of herbals. I suppose they need to be checked that they can be taken with prescribed medication ? I think st johns wart has some reactions with medication. I'm going to look into the others to see if they help me. Thankyou for the post.xxxx
