Constant sick feeling and worrying 24/7

I have this constant sick feeling in my throat, so much so I cannot eat and I'm loosing weight. I am always worrying too and I think this makes my sick feeling worse. My fiance is over working in new zealand and I feel totally lost without him. He's enjoying himself and working hard but I feel stuck here and don't know what to do. We speak every day but I can't tell him how anxious I am. Has anyone else felt like this? Would it be worth going to the doctor for? I've started kalms tablets and I'm snacking on fruit as much as I feel able. Can prescription drugs help me? I hate feeling like this but I have no friends to turn to. Sorry for putting such a garbled question but I need help and advice on what I can do to help myself. Looby1982

HI,looby.....I suffered anxiety (sounds like you maybe too)..and my pride stopped me going to the doctors...what a fool, when I finally got meds I realised that my mistake was not going earlier.....Do tell your doctor exactly how you are feeling and your symptoms and thoughts..... the FULL story (i gave a half on the first appointment), this way you should get the correct meds.....Remember you might only require them short term, but there is nothing to feel bad about. And one important thing find someone you can trust and talk to this can be a great help.... get your problems out !

Hi. looby. I don't think you have been before if not then welcome. Great guys on here so you have come to the right place. This throat problem is very common in nervous illness as is weight loss. Yes, you must most certainly go to your GP for advice and, most important, reassurance. I am sure you will be fine but only your GP can diagnose and give the appropriate medicine. An important piece of advice if I may. Keep off the scales! We can frighten ourselves when we loose weight, which a lot do in nervous illness. Kalms are a herbal remedy and may work for you but it does depend on how deep your suffering is. I would strongly suggest a visit to the GP, as I said above. Medication can get you over the hump until you recover naturally. When your fiance returns you may well pick up but until then why suffer for the sake of a visit to the docs. I had this throat thing for years and it was very embarrassing to go out for a meal and not be able to swallow. In nervous illness the throat muscles go into spasm and this causes the restricted feeling. To help yourself you need to understand what is happening to you. I am going to recommend a book by Dr. Claire Weekes called 'Essential help for your Nerves' which costs around £10. She explains in detail a method of recovery that you may find helpful. In brief she suggests that you stop fighting and struggling with your anxiety. Stop trying to 'get rid of it'. I know, sounds the opposite to what you want to do. The book is my 'bible' and it played a big part in my recovery.

Look after yourself. Blessings. jonathan.

Hi Looby,

I get the sick feeling in my throat a lot and it is really difficult to cope with it.

Try to go to the doctors as they should be able to help and support you.

In the meantime try to eat little and often; fruit, soup, etc - things that slip down easily.

It must be very difficult for you to be feeling like this when you boyfriend is so far away. It's horrible when your support system has gone and you have no-one to fall back on. You've joined a wonderful supportive community here though.

Keep in touch.x

Hi, I have become very anxious and feeling of overwhelming, I have just moved house and panick because of the rising costs of living. My son who lives and works in London can not make it back for Christmas, this will be the first christmas without him and I am so depressed. And on top of all this I am going through the menopause and sometimes feel i don't want to be here anymore. The doctors all say don't suffer in silence but I don't want to go on Antidepressants or HRT. I try breathing into a paper bag to make mme feel better. My family are worried about me and this makes me more anxious that I am being a pain.
