Hi all. Been feeling good the past few weeks, going to the gym and keeping busy and I'm hooked on chamomile tea it really does relax you! Have been referred for CBT and am looking forward to seeing how it goes. What are other people's experience of CBT? x

Hi

I'm glad things are good with you now at the moment. I too, have been keeping busing, exercising, feeling good physically and more recently (consequently?) mentally, less anxiety/depression and taking life a lot easier. Have just taken up Yoga & progressive muscle relaxation, which is helping. Like you, I'm waiting for my CBT therapist to call me for first appt. - had an initial assessment 6 weeks ago but still waiting.... (NHS). In the meantime, I can recommend 'Brilliant Cognitive Behavioural Therapy' by Stephen Briers and moodgym.anu.edu.au as a way of getting to grips with the principles of CBT and how to apply it to everyday life.

Hi, so glad you are both feeling a bit better.

CBT for me was brilliant. I have suffered with anxiety for as long as I can remember, but my therapist, who I got through Anxiety UK, was brilliant, we jelled from our first meeting. it was hard slog at the beginning and I wondered if I had done the right thing, but the saying it has to get worse before it gets better springs to mind. A lot of work between myself and the therapist took place, but it was the making of me. I still take anti-depressants, but I am a much stronger and happier person.

I wish you well on your journey.

HI,there I am a member of Anxiety UK, who was it they recommended to you? I would love to get some help.

Cheers for now

Hi Gretch,

I wasn't recommended to anyone in particular, I just wanted to be referred to a CBT therapist, which only took 2 weeks, but as it is a long time ago, I can't remember her name. She had premises in Bury, Lancs as I live in Heywood.

Do go and get some help, you would have to ask Anxiety UK about the amount the therapist charge hourly, but it is a lot cheaper through Anxiety UK and well worth it.

Good luck

xx

Hi. I've been having CBT for the last eight weeks for help with health anxiety. This is with a therapist that Anxiety UK found for me, and it's phone counselling once a week. I was a bit apprehensive about telephone counselling but I think as long as you find the right person and feel you have a rapport with them, it's fine. As for the CBT, it's not an overnight cure but it's definitely helping. By keeping a daily "thoughts diary" I can see a pattern emerging in my thinking which is helping me to understand and manage my problems better. It's helped me realise that what I get anxious about is caused by thoughts rather than reality and I am trying to retrain my thinking. Hope you read this and please let me know if you want any more info.
