I have always suffered with anxiety as well as depression. Due to a set of 3 major life changing events, my life has changed dramatically. I have been told on several occasions that I could very well have aspergers. I have though about this, and asked my Dr, only he just seems to only know one solution "There, there, nothing to worry about..." I getting sick of it, as I could have a very real diagnosis of this condition. It would explain a lot of my confusing life.
My doctor thinks every little thing I ask ... - Anxiety Support
My doctor thinks every little thing I ask about is just anxiety related..
Have you thought about a second opinion ? maybe it would be a good idea to speak with the practice manager and tell them your not happy with your GP and the way he/she seems to shrug things off, your worried and need to know for sure what exactly you are suffering with. Good luck with this hun and let us know how you go. Debs
I forgot to just say that when i had a problem with my GP, i had to make a complaint and my GP was a great Dr but she would not support me with a medical letter i needed. I could not work this out, she had always seen me when i went in the practice, i had always asked for her. However, for some reason she would not support me so i complained to the practice manager and when it all came out i have to say i felt awful but it was my only choice, we found out half my life medical records were missing from the system so the doctor did not know about my previous years therefor would not support me with the medical letter and now it is all sorted and she is great and supports me with a lot.
hello norwich73
I'm sorry to hear that you are havong this problem. Over the years at anxiety uk I have to say this issue has come up time and time again so much so that the phenomenon of gps dismissing real physical health issues in patients who also have anxiety and /or other mental health problem has a name: diagnostic overshadowing. The mental health charity rethink have done some excellent work profiling this issue through their physical health camapaign however this largely focussed on people with secondary care mental health issues like schizophrenia etc. I believe that there is a real need for anxiety uk to do some work on this matter and intend next year as part of our raising awareness of anxiety disorderd work to incorporate this. I suspect we will have a long way to go before being able to change attitudes but it has to start sonewhere. All the best, nicky lidbetter - anxiety uk
Thanks Nicky. I will mention this to my GP. I know I am not just being anxious when I need to discuss these issues with my GP. These things need to be looked into properly.
