Bp pressure

First I had bronchitis about 5 weeks ago. It was still early in pandemic so wasn't much testing. My doctor prescribed a rescue inhaler over the phone. Of course those give u a fast heartbeat and can make u nervous. So of course starting to get anxiety because my bp was thru the roof. So then doctor changed my inhaler and put me on bp pills. So now i take my bp twice a day sometimes 3 times. But at night when im alone at home in isolation my anxiety seems to be the worse. So when I take my bp reading at night it's always high. When its at 170/90 I pop a xanax. But if I take feep breaths and wait a little It usually goes down to 140ish/78ish. Anybody else check their bp when anxiety strikes and is real high.

Hello :-)

I have had high BP for years which is controlled my meds , I also have Health Anxiety and the worse thing that I could do is get myself a BP machine as your BP fluctuates throughout the day depending what you have been doing , how anxious you are and so on and like you are feeling now if I saw a high reading it would keep me in a state of anxiety

You say you take 2 or 3 BP meds a day ?

Did your Doctor tell you that you could take 2 or 3 if needed ?

Usually they will clearly state how many to take and that dose is what you should stick with as taking more than that might do you more harm than good

BP tablets can take a month or two to get your BP down so if you have not been taking them long you need to give them a chance

Usually in the UK when they start you on a BP tablet they tell you to take them a couple of months and ask you to go back and see them and then THEY take your BP and take it from there , if you need to increase the dose , or sometimes decrease the dose , talk to you how you feel on them and so on

Normally you will get a higher reading when you are anxious but if it were me , I would throw the machine out , take the dose the Doctor prescribed , no more no less and unless I was getting dreadful side effects give it a couple of months and let them check it and tell me how well they think they are working or if I needed to change them :-)

BP is very common and the Doctors do get it under control but like I said it can take a few weeks or even a couple of months for the medication to really work :-)

Take Care x

yes my doctor wants me to take multiple readings. Because I'm on this inhaler and side effects are high heart rate and high bp. But your right when anxious it's high. I've been on them about a month so far. Another problem is I can only talk to my doctor on phone because they aren't seeing patients now unless emmergency. I also have xanax if my anxiety gets out of control. I had 7 and only taken 3 for a month. I wouldn't mind having a low dose xanax to take during this panademic. You have any experience with meds. I won't take long acting ssri.

Hello :-)

I have to be honest I don't like meds but if and when I have to take them I will

When it comes to blood pressure we are lucky now that they pick up if it is high , sometimes it can take a while but they do get us on the right meds and get it normal again

It sounds if you Doctor has asked you to take multiple readings then a phone call would be all you need as you must have noted down your readings which they would not be able to do any more in person and discuss how you are feeling and you worries over the phone

Maybe book a telephone conversation and get their medical advise on what they think

We share our experiences on here but none of us our Doctors and even if we were we can't diagnose :-)

Give them a call , I am sure they will tell you what they think you should do :-)

Hope you get it sorted :-) x

it's all anxiety my bp goes up and down. the morning perfect and night a little high but I'm 61 so 140ish/78 isn't really high. Lately been practicing mindfulness and helps alot. To be honest I feel fortunate that my problems are small compared to many people. Plu this panademic is taking a toll on everybody.

I agree :-)

I also feel grateful that unlike years ago people were not picked up having high BP and only when something did happen did they pick up on it where now they seem to catch us early , get us on the right meds and by keeping our BP stable :-) x

Xanax only takes my highs and lows away, I do .5mg twice a day and it helps. I don’t do BP, mine is typically low anyway.

If I take a xanax I feel great. The idea I believe is coping without them. Even when a get super anxious I know it won't last forever and try to ride it out. But I keep some around for the extreme cases.
