Hair falling out

From stress every time I take a shower huge clumps of hair fall out. Unless I can destress i will go bald at the rate I’m going. Any tips? I’m already on some med/topical oils from my dermatologist, but to change myself into a not stressed out person, well I’m not sure where to start. Deep breathing, exercise, those I am trying, praying, trying, loving and believing,... any tips?

Is this a side effect from any of your medications? I know each of these meds can cause any number of things. For me, it’s sexual side effects and zero appetite. Ive lost 25 pounds which has been nice. No longer considered “overweight” with the crazy BMI scale in the states. I guess there are trade offs. Wouldn’t it be nice to take a medication that not only made you happy and calm but gave you an eye lift, a tighter butt, erased crows feet, dissolved perimenopause, etc.... I’m thinking that if there were one, the pharmaceutical companies would have the market on it. You look at the side effects for these meds and it’s all about headache, insomnia, lactation (who needs to lactate when they are 49?), ED, weight gain, tinnitus, suicidal ideation, etc..... Anyway, I do lose hair but I that think it’s more related to hormones. Hope you find the answers you want. You sound better today. Hope you are well❤️

I think it’s from stress. Atm fighting for life, trying to get to a point where I can live a somewhat normal life. So tired

I color my hair and only wash it every other day or every 3rd day. On the days in between I use dry shampoo. You can also use plain cornstarch as a dry shampoo. Best if you use it at bedtime. A lot of my hair falls out too. I notice it more when my anxiety is bad. When you wash your hair can you take your time and use your fingers to gently massage your scalp? I do this while I breathe slowly and treat myself to shampoo I buy where I get my hair cut. While I am doing it I tell myself I deserve to be pampered. It may sound crazy but changing my mindset from something I have to do and making it seem like special pampering helps. HUGS!

Your doing all the right things to destress, deep breathing, praying, etc. Try worring less about things will definitely help 100%. Get the "So What " attitude.

Your hair will grow back.

Hello :-)

You are doing all the right things :-)

How to distress well if only I knew !

My hairdresser though always says washing your hair every day is bad for it , I do though but she says once a week or even longer is all it needs so not sure how often you wash it but maybe try the once a week and see if that helps :-)

Happy New Year to you and I hope it is kind to you :-)

Take Care x

Oooooh I like the idea. I’ll try it! My dermatologist says every day to wash so I’ve been doing that but yeah I want to give what you’ve suggested a try.

in reply to Starrlight

Well as you are under a Doctor I am not sure if you should take my advise if they say every day :-D

But all I know is my hairdresser tells me of for washing mine so much ! :-D x

Ive heard it before too, that it gets dry when we wash out the oils... I don’t know!

in reply to Starrlight

Yes they say it damages it , in fact there was one hairdresser who hair always looks nice that told me she washed hers every 3 weeks :-o

Now to me that is pushing it and I nearly dropped but all I can say is you would never know and she has a good head of hair :-) x

I have thick hair but if this keeps up I won’t although some is growing back... my dermatologist says just as much hair will fall out wether you wash it frequently or not much... I don’t know but what I do know is I dread very much dread showers now ... just seeing how much hair comes out scares me.. one doc says it’s frustrating when I told her it was scary, ha!, if she was going through it I bet she’d think it was a bit more than just frustrating.

in reply to Starrlight

I understand how it must make you feel , I mean to a women especially our hair is important to us :-)

Glad you are been seen though by the experts :-) x

You just made me smile 😊 oh no the dreaded New Year! I hate the let down after a busy Christmas and I don’t tend to look forward to a new year ... maybe there’s a trick to it 😆 I don’t get it, best to you! What type of support are you planning for? I can’t seem to get myself to call or go to therapist, just in a scary place and it sucks that when I need it the most I feel most like not reaching out

in reply to Starrlight

Well to be honest I just want the new year over and then everything goes back to normal whatever normal is :-D

Well I was seeing a counsellor and because I have agoraphobia I could not get one to come to me on the NHS which I know we are lucky to have so I had to pay for one !

So this left me choosing one , first sign leave me to choose my own it is bound to go wrong !

I stuck it out for 6 months and I have lined her pockets as we say very nicely paying her and all she talked about was her , her and her !

I could tell you more about her than maybe she could about me !

Well I knew this was never right so I politely said I don't need you any more !

She said well you know where I am if you do , I thought erm I do but it won't happen , O she also told me every week how wonderful she was at her job , not sure if she was trying to convince me or herself on that one :-D

Anyway I went to the Docs and we have an organisation , I referred myself and they are coming out on the 6th to see what kind of therapy will be best for me at this moment , I feel the PTSD needs dealing with first and this one is free on the NHS which is a good job !

So when I know what they offer I will let you know :-)

But I would certainly look into it because I do feel if you get the right person and not one like I did last time there could be some benefits from it :-)

Have you been on You tube ? there are all kinds of therapy and relaxation etc on there when if you listen to them makes sense and if you keep listening day after day it does seem to start helping more , worth a go and it is free , just put anxiety in search and then all sorts come up :-) x

I am opposite, I don’t like normal whatever that is, lol 😆 I like my kids home from school I love having them around! plus I don’t have to get up at 4:30 or 5:00 am for school days...

Wow sticking it out for six months ... can’t say ya didn’t try to make it work...she sounds terrible, so sorry for that bad luck . I really like my therapist but I never make appointments since it’s not only hard to get a ride to but I don’t like to talk face to face... she said we can talk on the phone and I was thinking of calling today biuuuut I don’t want to. Oh well.

I’m in a very bad place these days. I’m having a drink to calm my nerves after my long sunny walk didn’t seem to do any good. I know it’s not good to drink and I have it as a habit now. Ugh 😩 trying to limit it for now.

Thanks yeah I’ll have to check out you tube . My fav is about mindfulness meditation and reflections by Tara Brach.

Hi.

I wasn’t able to reply to the hair comment because I got a message saying in order to comment I had to be a member of the community!!! I hate technology sometimes.

Anyway, I went thru hair loss too. Came out in piles but my hair is longer so I thgt it just maybe looked like a lot of hair. I try everything. Hair and Nail vits., special shampoo, extra Biotin. I think it all helps a little.

How are you ? Just New Years to get thru now.

Starrlight in reply to Poodie

So did the hair loss improve for you? I’m so not looking forward to New Years as I have nothing I want to celebrate and I’m trying to quit drinking and so I’m in a rough spot. Anyway thanks for reaching out!!! I appreciate you!

in reply to Starrlight

I quite like talking on the phone give her a ring what have you to loose :-)

All the best for 2020 you most definitely deserve it :-) x

Thank you. I appreciate you too.

I think it keeps me from losing even more hair. I noticed when I got really depressed and stopped doing anything including the vits, it was much worse.

I do not like New Year’s Eve. It seems phony to me. I like the New Year because it means the holidays are over ! We usually ring in the New Year in bed sleeping.

Shortly after New Years I am expecting a short visit from my older sister who was awful to me for years.

I think I handle seeing her better because I know what she is and don’t expect her to change. She pretends to be nice. I don’t see her often, nevertheless she brings back bad memories.

I wish you a happier new year.

Hi Starlight,

This happened to me also, my hair was all my clothes and I was afraid to wash and blow dry it, I couldn't believe how much hair was coming out. I was so scared I even bought a couple of wigs Just in case!

But am pleased to say that I have never had to use them.

My hair falling was at the height of my anxiety and has got less and less since I have calmed down a bit.

I came across a shampoo and conditioner on line that has help so much, I would say it has stopped at least 80% or more of the hair loss I was experiencing, so with that too I have calmed down even more.

I don't think I'm allowed to tell you the name of the product here for fear of advertising, but if you'd like to pm me I will let you know.

Best Wishes xx

Have your parathyroid checked out. You could hyperparathyroidism. I had it. One of the many symptoms is your hair will fall out. Have your calcium levels checked. High calcium levels are indicator of hyperthyroidism. Hope this helps. Good luck.
