Having a panic attack over health anxiety

I was at work yesterday (in a kitchen) and I got a small blister on my finger. It popped and the skin came off without me realising and I had to continue to work washing dishes, cleaning etc.

Anyway, I have health anxiety and it's really hurting, throbbing and feels hot and I'm currently having a panic attack over whether it's infected or not. I did the stupid idea of googling and saw that it could lead to sepsis and I'm scared. I tried to wash it as often as i could at work and have been washing it since then and putting antiseptic cream and a plaster on to cover it but I'm worried all the germs in the kitchen and dirty dish water may have already entered the wound..

Does anyone know how likely it is that it's infected or what I should do? Sorry if it sounds stupid, my mind goes to the worst in these situations.

Hi relax as your immune system is taking care of it. It will hurt for a day or 2 so keep a plaster on it for the time being while the skin grows and stop keep fiddling with it.

In the unlikely event it does get infected it will swell and be very painful and you might see a small white line. If this spreads ask your pharmacist or ring your doctor. A very small wound like this won't cause sepsis so don't worry.

I had an infection of a finger once which was agonising then I saw the white line so went to a doctor who wasn't worried and didn't do anything. I was desperate though coz of the pain so decided to self treat. The infection had to be lanced so I sterilised a sewing needle using my lighter then stuck it in the infection to release it. It drained and started to heal up straight away and within a couple of days it was back to normal.

Now I am not promoting this but it worked for me x

Keep it clean. Cover it when out in public. Keep gloves on at work.

Also allow air to get at it. When you are home.

Is a plaster a bandaid? I'm in the US never heard the term.

If you happen to notice let me know.
