Coping with medication side effects

I'm so sorry, I'm invading this group slightly, but I am having a really bad anxiety flare-up and I'd be so grateful if anyone could give me some advice.

I am 28 and I am on day 2 taking Cellcept (an immunosuppressant) for lupus nephritis and I haven't been feeling so good since yesterday. I won't go into too many details, but my stomach is very upset and I've been feeling very nauseous and vomiting a lot. It just comes on in waves like so suddenly, and sometimes I'm not even getting to the bathroom in time.

I've had anxiety problems in the past and a lot of it was around weight and eating (I never had a diagnosed eating disorder but I was not in a good place and kind of managed to pull myself out of it). So anything like this really messes with my head! Plus, on a more practical level, I want to get back to work on Monday and I'm worried it will not be better in time.

If anyone has some advice on how to cope with this, I would be so so grateful.

Lots of thanks in advance!

Thank you so much for the reply. I shouldn't be so affected by this! It's just really thrown me off for some reason and I'm finding the diarrhoea very hard to cope with, just getting very panicky and things.

Hi

Sorry for all you're having to deal with and what's happening now. And, you're holding down a job which is amazing.

Can you manage to keep down water?

Is there a supermarket/store or pharmacy near you that's open now? Can you get out to buy a box of Diarolyte (Blackcurrant flavour ). Our Tescos sells own brand Electrolyte drinks sachets. You just mix with a cup of tap water.

The plain will taste awful (like salt water) get a flavoured one.

This will help to prevent dehydration and you should feel a bit better.

Also buy some Fox's Glacier Mints and/or Mint Imperials (check the latter contain glucose and peppermint oil). These will help till you can eat and keep down normal food.

Fox's Glacier fruits helpful too or any Barley Sugar sweets .

Hope your symptoms settle down soon.

X

Poor you! Get some Imodium. This will stop the diarrhoea. And I always found flat full-fat coke helped. 😊

Thank you so much for the advice. I got some Diarolyte today and I am feeling a bit better. The vomiting has sort of calmed down, it's more just the sicky feeling and the diarrhoea, which is still causing me problems, especially in the morning. I'm very worried about going to work tomorrow because I'm not getting much wanting when I need to go to the toilet, I'm so scared about having an accident on public transport. Feeling very anxious and panicky but I hope it will pass.

Keep drinking the Diarolytes till the diarrhoea stops and you're eating well.

To stop Diarrhoea eat marshmallows.
