Anxiety related weird vision symptom that never goes away.

So I have seen a few posts on anxiety and the weird vision. I have this weird vision thing i can't explain but a few people have nailed it mostly. textured things such as carpet, house siding, grass at times, a very patterned shirt etc. I do not need to be panicking for this to happen, i dont need to be anxious its just there now. it started happening a few months after i became agoraphobic and was anxious and panic attacks all the time but then the weird vision symptom happened and never went away and its been a little over a year. looking at the sky i can see weird dots/sparkles. idk whats wrong with me, i dont know if i need a brain scan or what. The vision thing makes for me to be more anxious when trying to do exposures and gives me headaches. really need a solution to this.

I am wonder if it would be better to just work on my anxiety and keep doing exposures because I am agoraphobic and maybe with time i get a hold on my anxiety and the eye issues go away. just a thought. as long as the eye issue wont kill me then ill push through it. it just scares me because idk what it is and its not easy to describe. shimmery vision with what ive mentioned above as well as others just makes me scared im losing it and dont know what to do.

I am experiencing the same thing along with lots of head pressure and derealization. Its crazy. Im on some meds but i dont know whats causing this yet. I see a neurologist next week.

yeah I too have the head pressure which i often confuse with a headache but it does go away (the pressure) and the derealization is something i experience too but it seems to come and go. i think its more common if my vision issue worsens because it varies too. I seem to have the most visual relief before bedtime and at night. Please please keep in touch with me on how it goes. do you also have anxiety too? sorry im new to this forum or site so im not sure who deals with what here. thanks for the reply. i hope we can solve this

Yes I am, Im currently on 40mg of Paxil. but, i think or i know that i will be much better once i figure out this vision issue which has been bringing on headaches or pressure. I dont have much sleep issues. at first i did when the agoraphobia and anxiety started but this past year the anxiety has been better but the vision issue remains persistent. by the way i am 23 almost 24 if that matter and male.

Im 27 male so around your age, ive had the same issues for 2-3 years. I too feel the vision symptoms are more constant. Sometimes i feel like my brains going yo just shut down. It gets that bad. And like my eyes and brain arent working together.

I really hope soon we can get over this. Its preventing me from enjoying day to day life. i cannot live like this forever its not bearable. do you have discord so messaging can be easier? or is it best to keep chats here for others to see? i do not work, its too hard with the vision and anxiety i will just be too overwhelmed.

I am on the same boat as you? Isnt discord a gaming chat? I got x box one lol

Blake96 profile image
Blake96 in reply to Mike7777

well i dont use it for gaming although i do have xbox one as well haha but its just an easy way to chat. how did you think to go see an neurologist for this? my first thought was eye doctor and they said i have 20/20 and everything is fine but obviously its not. my eyes are healthy but maybe something with my nervous system or brain has caused this. i have no answers but i pray you get some next week. it is brutal to live with day in and day out and not really know how to describe it to anyone for help.

I have eye issues as well. Posted many times. I have the same. Also I notice certain patterns bother my eyes like the pattern is moving. Eye doctor said my eyes are fine neurologist did MRI and MRA fine. Just showed scar tissue. Then found out alot of it is my neck. And now panic attacks and anxiety

Add me ha twoamigos9612..i did the same saw ete doc my vision was fine. I had been seen my primary doc and had to get a referral to a neurologist. The head symptoms were ruining my life like you said. So thats what a neurologist specializes in. But yeah i have to figure this out.

Have had these same issues. Like static almost. And then when it's at its worst I get horrible floaters that spread at the bottom of my eyes. Floaters too.

I also get headaches which freak me out too bc my brain will feel weird. Have had a CT scan that showed nothing. Glad to know I'm not alone.

I suffer from bipolar 2 with extreme anxiety.

Get well soon everyone

yes, the floaters come too for me i forgot to mention. and i never get headaches but as of late its been everyday varying in degree for them but they are there. ive only seen an eye doctor a month ago. my anxiety is getting better but not my vision thing. hoping to hear solutions on this board soon as it seems we all deal with the same thing. aside from the eyes i have anxiety/panic attack which led me to being agoraphobic/housebound 95% of the time.

Yes, I experience a form of this. My daughter has a brightly colored, textured play tiles for the floor and sometimes it’s like the colors are jumping out at me. I went to the optometrist who couldn’t find any cause so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is anxiety related, as it has coincided with some GAD.

I dont think you are experiencing the same thing as me but then I am outside of my home things look unreal to me. Almost like I step out my door and onto a painting or make believe land. I have had this for about 3 yrs,if I focus on it I'll stress and my anxiety gets horrible so I try to ignore it, I just tell my self that I am real and everything around me is as well, then I take a deep breath and go on.

I agree with above. It's important to see your GP to check your blood pressure and exclude other physical causes. Though he should have checked your blood tests including full blood count to exclude anaemia and liver kidney thyroid function tests and random glucose and your blood pressure, although you are young. I think the optometrist or optician is best to get your eyes checked, and maybe exclude glaucoma which is raised pressure in your eyes. Other than that graded exposure therapy is best way to conquer agoraphobia. Its important to get it sorted as quickly as possible as will get harder to conquer the longer it goes on. And if course more detrimental to your life and employment prospects the longer it goes on. I'd say you need to be getting out at least once a day without undue anxiety. If you can't do this ask your GP to refer you for cognitive behavioural therapy with the primary care psychology service, it better still occupational therapy, though probably not available in primary care. Also you could do some self help on line CBT. Have a look at living life to the full website, or Moodjuice. But if you can't get out, and are not getting on top of it with any of the above. Your GP needs to refer you to local mental health services for graded exposure therapy with an occupational therapist. Try not to focus on the vision thing. Provided you have seen GP and possibly optician to rule out physical cause, I think the more you focus on it, the worse it will be, and more worried you are likely to be. I have come across one person though who has permanent visual distortion after using an illicit substance several years ago. Do avoid anything like that, obviously! 🙂

ive seen an eye doctor, everything checks out. I have had blood work done, solid there. my exposures are going great, staying positive and learning to accept the vision issue as it is just an anxiety symptom that can fade if i learn to accept it and continue my progress at the gym, with my eating/drinking habits and keeping a smile on my face everyday. i have had this a while but its getting more manageable being that im accepting it as much as i can whereas i used to dread it. I think you are wrong about the statement "Its important to get it sorted as quickly as possible as will get harder to conquer the longer it goes on" as of right now its been 9-10 months with this and past few weeks ive dealt with it better than ever. its the hardest to deal with at first, i think it can only get better as time goes on if you continue to work towards getting answers and ruling this out. if it was a real medical issue then yes get it sorted although its likely my nervous system over sensitized.
