Hi

I went to the Dr yesterday to go back on the anti depressants I was on fluxutine but didn't find that they helped

I'm constantly on edge with health anxiety so Dr put me on these

Has anyone had any side affects starting them

Thanks in advance x

xogemxo in reply to DeanSamson

Am only on day 3 but I've had racing heart and head aches but I hope it passes

DeanSamson in reply to xogemxo

What dose are you on? Yeah I had a headache and heart palpitations not to bad now tho.

xogemxo profile image
xogemxo in reply to DeanSamson

It's only 50 mg is that high?

DeanSamson profile image
DeanSamson in reply to xogemxo

No that's the average starting dose I think. Iv gone Down to 25mg as the sickness was quite bad. This is second day at 25mg.

Apparently it take a week or so to pass. I made the huge mistake of having it with a empty stomach on day one. Never again. Haha

Hello can I please ask if you are still taking them and have the side effects passed x

DeanSamson profile image
DeanSamson in reply to Liz0

Hi sorry I stopped taking them after a week. I just felt I wanted to try without them. I believe side effects wear off after a few weeks. What side effects do you have.

Liz0 profile image
Liz0 in reply to DeanSamson

Nausea really bad is the worst, headache, dry mouth, sore jaw and really upset / teary which isn’t normal for me. I was given them for anxiety and I am on day 5/6 of them and struggling to see how I’ll manage x

DeanSamson profile image
DeanSamson in reply to Liz0

Yeah I can remember having the side effect now. I had major feeling of sickness but was never sick. Headaches were here and there I drank loads of fluids. I kept finding myself clenching my jaw. My mood was effected a little I just became numb to things. But it did help the anxiety tho. People say it takes weeks before you notice any difference but I noticed within day. I just didn't like the feeling they gave you.

I’m still getting bad anxiety palpitations and feeling like I can’t breathe so they defo haven’t help yet. I can’t beleibe how many people suffer it’s awful, I have another call off the mental health team in the morning so I’ll be sure to update them on how I’m feeling. I had 4 weeks of nausea and sickness due to anxiety but that’s when it started so it’s all new to me and very scary. I pray I see some improvements soon because it’s very difficult to a light at the end of the tunnel

DeanSamson in reply to Liz0

There is light at the end of the tunnel. You got to keep pushing through. Iv had it for about a year now. Cbt therapy is good it makes you understand what anxiety is and why it's happening. The biggest thing they teach you is it's completely normal.

Liz0 in reply to DeanSamson

I think I’ll be on the waiting list after my next phone conversation, they just need to discuss best option for me as it’s severe but come on suddenly

I’ve lost a lot of weight, had a few hospital admissions and blood tests which all came back ok so finger points solely to anxiey. For two weeks it was all day anxiety and I didn’t sleep much at all

Thanks for listening xx

No problem. Anxiety and mental health is serious business. I never thought of it before now how much of a impact it can have. I hated going out alone in case something was going to happen. I had to keep telling myself Nothings going to happen I am fine. You will be too you just need to convince your brain that the feelings you have are normal but just heightened at the moment. They will settle down just takes time.

Hi I’m Day 9 and have never been on tablets everyday before , I have tablets to take when needed .

I had been feeling really nauseous the first week , but it’s def not as bad . Been getting headaches and achy jaw .

I have been feeling good anxiety wise until this arvo . Massive heart skips , chest tightness, and BP quiet high , just feeling anxious . Hope it’s just a one off .

I started on 50mg for 7 days now I’m on 100 mg , took the first 100mg today .

xogemxo profile image
xogemxo in reply to Jodz

Yes my heart is exactly the same and the nausea am only on day 3.. But did ur symptoms go away after the first week?

Jodz profile image
Jodz in reply to xogemxo

I’m not feeling sick like I was , but still getting a headache . I’m just not sure of 100 mg ?

DeanSamson profile image
DeanSamson in reply to Jodz

I have gone down to 25mg a day now. Starting slowly. I don't think I'll go over 50mg.

Jodz in reply to DeanSamson

Dean what’s the highest you have gone ?

DeanSamson profile image
DeanSamson in reply to Jodz

Highest I have gone is 50mg so far. I'm not a big fan of the side effects to be honest. I'll gave them a week to settle down and if not I might consider stopping them. But we'll see I start my new job in a week and can't start looking like a jaw clenching sick zombie haha

xogemxo profile image
xogemxo in reply to DeanSamson

Awk I hope everyone can get a little ease off them apparently it can take up to 4 weeks to work but who nos.

Positivity!

in reply to DeanSamson

You will probably need to give more than a week. At least 2. It starts getting better but as with most of these meds I have to agree - minimum 4 weeks. I had jaw clenching thing. Now passed. Chew gum? 😊

xogemxo profile image
xogemxo in reply to

Did u have the head aches as well and did they pass?

in reply to xogemxo

No not headaches but felt very weird, spent a lot of time on the sofa, generally not with it! A lot of people get headaches and other symptoms but they do pass with time. I am 💯 now which is great! Good luck 😉

Jodz profile image
Jodz in reply to

Hi s-l-f my jaw the last 2 days has been way better and headaches have now completely stopped . Still getting skipped heart beats now and again . So other than that, “ touch wood “ I’m feeling not to bad 🤞😁 . Thankyou for checking up on me it means a lot , to have the support .

How are you feeling ?

in reply to Jodz

Hi jodz I am doing well. Overall feeling pretty good most of the time. Still aware of jaw clenching from time to time and yawning more than previously but very manageable. 😊

Jodz profile image
Jodz in reply to

That’s good . I think I spoke to soon this morning . Jaw ache and headache today . Also today is the first day since starting Zoloft I have felt really anxious , and feel pretty ordinary as the day goes on . I hope it’s a one off 🙄

A friend of mine is on 50 mg and has had terrible insomnia but then again, I am on Prozac and the same has happened to me,

Charbey profile image

Hi. I started on 50mg. Then went up to 100 they had me on it for 3 weeks. Then because I would get lightheaded/dizzy a little not as bad as before the meds he upped it to 150 way too much for me right away. I was nauseous and I felt like a zombie and then by the time it was take the dose again I was starting to feel better so I tried it for a whole weekend had to take a day off of work that's how bad it was so I called the doctor back and he told me just to go down to 100 for right now. I also got very anxious again I almost felt like I did before the medication and I was like oh no I'm not doing this. So maybe he might have to either keep me at this dose and and let it work a little more of 100 or slowly increase maybe 125 not sure yet

Hi there

I have been on Zoloft for 20+ years on and off and have tried every other SSRI out there. Usually a good starting dose for anxiety disorders is 25 for a week and then 50 and so on. I am at max dose of 200 now. But I spent a couple of years at 25 and a few at 50. Zoloft has probably the least amount of negative side effects and that’s why even though it’s been around a long time it’s still a go to med. yes I had nausea headaches and side effects for a couple of weeks. Trust me when I say they will pass. Most SSRI’s need 4-6 weeks to get maximum benefit. The problem is people with anxiety disorders tend to stop because of side effects ( some are real, however most are because you are already anxious about taking the med). Ask your dr to cut down to 25 for a week and then do 50. Also I take mine right before bed and always have so I could sleep through any perceived side effects. Hope this helps😊

in reply to rebecca3455

Great advice. I agree that being anxious already makes one super sensitive to side effects 😊

May I ask, what was your terrible reaction? I hope you’re doing better now! 💜

I was on it for over 10 years at 100mg.

It worked very well for me with no side effects that i noticed.

It did stop working for me last year so i switched to lamictal and it really saved my life.

Stick with the zoloft it took me about 2 weeks then one day i realized i felt so much better.

Indigojoe profile image
Indigojoe in reply to Dogdoo

what symptoms did you have that the Lamictal became a life saver for you? What did Zoloft treat for you that lamictal was better for ( if that made sense)

Dogdoo profile image
Dogdoo in reply to Indigojoe

I went into a severe downward spiral last fall/winter.

I fell into a dark depression, suicidal ideation, awful anxiety, etc. I thought about ways to kill myself all day long.

I even fashioned a noose from a rope i had.

It was very bad.

I was engaging in risky behavior, was fired from my job, etc.

I admitted myself into a 2 week outpatient partial hospitalization program

I was finally diagnosed as bipolar (i forget which type).

The lamictal really helped bring my bottom up, so to speak.

The darkness lifted from my life. I also take a small dose of seroquel at night and it helps my anxiety.

The lamictal has stabilized my mood in a big way.

I got a new job in a totally new field and I'm really liking it and am very successful.

I can flat out say this medication prevented my from killing myself.

Just like kenster1, I had a terrible reaction to it. I think it's called a serotonin shock or something like that. I collapsed, it was terrifying. That was only after taking it for 3 days.

Brightfuture22 profile image
Brightfuture22 in reply to MollyStark

Oh my goodness Molly, that’s horrifying! What dose were you taking? You said you collapsed, did you pass out? Also, did you feel bad from day 1 of starting? Sorry for all the questions, I am getting ready to start Zoloft, so any info is helpful! 💜

I'm on day 4 and am waking up with the shakes lol is this normal

I started Sertraline five weeks ago after coming off paroxetine. The first 2 weeks I suffered physical side effects. Nausea jaw clenching, hot flushes, sweating, palpitations, insomnia, stomach cramps and diarrhoea. Weeks 3 and 4 the physical symptoms decreased but I became increasingly anxious. I seriously thought I was going to explode. However, now I'm in week 5 the anxiety is decreasing and I've had times when I feel back to my old self. Don't know if some of these symptoms were caused by paroxetine withdrawal. I am very sensitive to medication which is why I stayed on paroxetine for nearly 20 years even though it had stopped working for me.

I’m glad to hear that you are starting to feel better! Are you on the lowest dose of Zoloft? 💜

I'm on 50mg

xogemxo in reply to Jakiflora

I had to come off them I was only on day 4 I felt like I was doped up lol with the other side affects I wouldn't have been able to go to work I'm very sensitive any way I'm still getting the palpitations and jumping out of me sleep and I've been off them 3 days on them 3 I need some thing with no side affects

Jakiflora profile image
Jakiflora in reply to xogemxo

Unfortunately there is no such thing. I have always suffered bad side effects from antidepressants. Luckily I only work two days a week and have a very understanding boss.

in reply to xogemxo

I agree with Jakiflora. As far as I’m aware there are no SSRIs that guarantee no side effects. Maybe think about restarting when you have some holiday so you don’t have to go to work. Or take a few days off sick? From my part I’m so happy I persisted as they have given me my life back 😊

My doc had me take 25 mg for a week then up to 50 mg. I had intermittent nausea for a week or two
