Mom with teen suffering from depression and anxiety

I'm a newby here and was hoping to find some support. My teen is suffering from depression and anxiety and is not herself. We are seeking medical help but I feel lost and heartbroken for her. Advice?

I am so sorry she is going through this. It is truly awful. Mine did not start until I was 57 years old and dealing with a lot of health issues. Just be there for her and know she would give anything to not be like this. Unless you have suffered from it also, you can not imagine how it feels. I never knew anything about it and was one of those who would think,,,,Just get hold of yourself. But once I started having panic and anxiety, I understood how bad it is and that you really cannot just stop it on your own. Again, I am so sorry. I worry that my son will develop it one of these days.

You're doing the right thing by seeking psychiatric help for her. You need the assurance that she is getting what she needs. Be a good listener not judgemental of what she says. She will benefit by knowing you're there for her.

Thank you all for the advice. I do suffer from depression off and on my whole life. Never to the extent my daughter has but I am finally off anti depressants and feel better. I just want her to be ok. I have been looking for a support group to help with her and am so grateful to have found this one. Thank you!
