Does anyone else get terrible panic attacks from taking sleeping pills? I was prescribed to seraquil and the moment it kicked in, so did my adrenaline and I would freak out. It got to the point where I went to see my doctor because I don’t understand why taking any kind of sleeping supplement makes me panic. I have to choose between being awake for days or taking something that I know triggers an attack for me, I don’t know what to do about it cause my doctor said she can’t pinpoint anything about a sleeping medication that would cause that reaction in someone.

Obviously having the opposite reaction. I was prescribed trazadone which is pretty good. Lunesta is good but expensive.
Trazadone gave me the same reaction unfortunately, I’ve never tried Lunesta. Is it over the counter or something you have to be prescribed to?
Lunesta is prescribed. They would only give me a few as well.. not sure if they’re habit forming or just expensive. All in all, Xanax proves to be the best sleep med I’ve ever had. I was extremely stressed at work and the Xanax allowed me to sleep no matter what. I miss it- my new doctor doesn’t like it.
I may have to find another doctor
When I was prescribed to Xanax, it was great but it’s very habit forming (for me) and I had to be honest with myself about the way I was taking them. However I am very aware of how helpful they are with sleep and persistent anxiety, if you’re able to take them as prescribed then that’s wonderful. I would find another doctor if yours isn’t willing to work with you.
I can't (or couldn't, at least, during my anxiety) take sleeping pills or even Nyquil because even though I obviously KNEW I took it, it freaked me out that I was getting sleepy and that I might not be able to fight it if I had to. Like, *something* would happen that would require me to NOT be drowsy, but I'd be disabled by the medication and then somehow die or be killed. That was how my dumb brain was processing it. Seems ridiculous in retrospect, but it was a totally legit and not-at-all crazy assumption at the time.
You perfectly described exactly how I feel and why I freak out when the sleeping meds kick in, I couldn’t have worded that better myself and I really appreciate your response to my post. It makes me feel like I’m not completely insane and others have experienced this feeling as well. When something interferes with my naturally hyper vigilant self it sends me in to a tizzy, a few days ago I took Benadryl and it sent me into a panic attack that my mother had to talk me down from, it’s very scary.
There may be a side effect which is listed on drugs.com. Suggest you go back to your doctor and tell him/her that the drug does not suit you. I have been on Zopiclone for 8 years and it has helped me. I go to bed as late as I can, and have a bedtime drink such as cocoa and milk. I cut down the light in the bedroom to promote melatonin made in the body which helps you sleep. Others will say that to cut out the computer for an hour before you go to sleep helps you settle down. I find watching comedies or non sensational films with murder and death easier to sleep on. I hope you can get a change in prescription as this drug is making you worse.
Your medication is an antipsychotic. My mother had this same reaction.
My dr prescribed me trazadone but I'm already on a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. I asked if these were ok together and she assured me they were. Well, nothing could be farther from the truth! My blood pressure soared and anxiety was through the roof! I looked it up and these two together give you serotonin poisoning! Drs DO NOT know enough to be prescribing medication! My drs office now employees a PHD pharmacist but she's booked! You have to be your own health advocate, asking peers as you are here is a start !
