PAROXETINE

My son takes 40 mgs PAROXETINE and has been having trouble sleeping. Then doctor gave him RIMIPRIL which I believe has insomnia as side effect and he has been unable to sleep and all over the show. I personally think PAROXETINE gave him high blood pressure and RIMIPRIL knocked it down and even his memory seemed to suffer. Any advice.

I was prescribed this. It’s awful. I spent 3 weeks on it and came off. I was a complete zombie on it. This is in a group of SSRI drugs. Citalipram is another popular one of which again I can’t take. I tried Fluoxetine too which gave me hideous ‘brain zaps’ as they call them. I was introduced to Venlafaxine which is from the group SNRI drugs. I’m totally fine on these. The point to this is try the other group if he’s not getting on with the SSRI’s. It could be as simple as that.

Hi Chasabay, can I stick my nose in and ask what the difference is between SSRIs and SNRIs? Zoloft gave me zaps.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are the SSRI’s and Serotonin–norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors are the SNRI drugs. It’s very complex really so I’d suggest do your own research but it’s mainly to do with the norepinephrine which is added to it. Also it’s about the half life of the drug. They are released in different ways
