Palpitations for hours

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all doing well tonight..

It’s nearly 1am here in Scotland and Iv had palpitations for about 3hr now, iv had a hard busy day at work and didn’t have any palpitations but soon as I finished work and got home to relax they started. I took a propanolol and it hasn’t don’t anything at all to help.

I keep thinking about bad things are going to happen to me and I can’t sleep. Anyone else had palpitations for this amount of time and best way to get rid of them. Thanks 🙏

Hi Lauren, I do know that propanol does calm me down, but. It really doesn’t relax me too much. The only thing that calms me down is Xanax. If your doctor will allow for emergencies, I would try it- I wasn’t sure if you have it or not.

Hi Bryan I havnt tried that medication yet? I can’t seem to relax tonight don’t know why I’m like this tonight hope it passes soon

Hi Lauren,

Xanax really works well. Some doctors don’t like prescribing, but I’ve only used on an as needed basis and it’s worked really well.

Not sure if it’s in my head, but when I take propanol for a presentation, that night I have trouble sleeping. I take a lot though to get me through a presentation- 60mg.

Hope you feel better soon !!

Anxiety sucks

in reply to Lauren85

I would agree, makes my meetings and presentations me feel like a fish out of water. I sometimes ask myself, what the heck am I doing.

Though getting out of my comfort zone, definitely helps me, when it works well, my anxiety is squashed for a good amount of time!

Hey Lauren. With palpitations, I find breathing into them interrupts them. Have you tried this?

It is scary as hell....

Propanolol does help me to relax and not to panic, it also helps me to sleep if my body is tense and anxious.

Try mediration- it guides you through your breathing. I use Calm App, it is great.

How are you feeling this morning?

Yes I’ve had them they’re horrible aren’t they, And scary. I’ve got other physical symptoms, shaking inside like tremors, burning under skin, and weakness in legs and arms after anxiety attack has died down. Yesterday wasn’t too bad but today is not good so far. Was just saying to someone else that I couldn’t sleep last night so I took a mild sleeping pill from the doctor, but it didn’t really do anything because I was uptight and now I feel terrible, weepy and anxious.

I’m retired, and unfortunately I haven’t got any distractions so trying to cope the best I can 😔🙏🏻

I agree Xanax really helps. I did have them many years ago it went on for about a week. Had testing done nothing wrong. Dr. gave me Xanax after taking them for 5 days palpations were gone. Maybe ask for them.

Good luck!!

Good morning everyone, thank you so much for your replies,

I managed a few hours sleep touch wood the palpitations are gone for the moment but I feel groggy as Iv hardly slept. Il go to my doctor and ask about these tablets. I don’t know why they haven’t given me those tablets as Iv had anxiety for nearly 16years all they give me is beta blockers. Il see how I get on today.

Hope everyone is fine and anxiety isn’t causing you grief or worry.

Have a good day 😊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Go to a naturopath, you might be short on potassium or magnesium. I now take a good magnesium and a potassium citrate every morning and I very rarely get one. They will usually cure you and not cover them up. Check your'e electrolytes.

I don’t think a doctor will prescribe Xanax as they are not readily available here.
