hello I'm donna, I juat turned 23 last 19. having health anxiety ruins how I deal with my job and social life. It is really difficult for me now especially I'm th8nking that I may have breast cancer because of continues breaat pain. I already got checked last november and the doctor found a lump but is benign. I am afraid that it might be cancerous when time passes by and I dont want to die yet. I want to enjoy what life has ro offer but I'm stuck in this situation where I only think about it having breast cancer. I'm fighting all my thoughts but it seems that it only gets worse. I'm also taking meds but it does not help. I'm taking it for over a month now. I'm on escitalopram 5mg and rivotril. I also sleeo for just 5 hours and couldn't sleep again. any thoughts? or is any one in this situation?

Acceptance is the way to go. From experience. Also need to support the journey with relaxation, it is due, otherwise it's almost impossible to embrace acceptance. If meditation doesn't suits you, you have to find something. In my case it's self massage, once you are a bit more relaxed and start yawning (which notifies of a mental state change) you of retry to approach meditation. If you can't find any I'm sorry but mess are the only alternative I found. But it is just a tool to acceptance and surrender. Once there I can assure it is much easier to deal with fears, they could even won't be there anymore.

acceptance of having anxiety?

Not really, acceptance and surrender must be transversal, so yes also about anxiety but that's just the tip of the iceberg. We who have anxiety often lack emotional knowledge and control, we also have a deep fear of uncertainty, and that fear builds up and becomes our main mental state. We are not so able to process and release emotions. I guess that's why acceptance (which means listening first to our internal states) helps so much. It doesn't really require rationality at all. Once the first encounter with what made us anxious, it's the emotional state that drives our thought and not vice versa. You can easily prove it, you will see that all the terrible thoughts you have when you are in fear, suddenly disappear if you change the emotional state (be it because you relaxed naturally, meditating or using benzodiazepines). And about meds, well i had a traumatic adolescence for several reasons I won't tell, and I grow up scared of people, of love, and couldn't hold a job for too long because I was too immature not knowing what I wanted from life, and when I met again my father after 20 years he destroyed my self esteem, then I lost my job and home and I started getting panic attacks, It spiraled down out of control, anxiety, Gad, PA, and after one month of that life I'm sure I also experienced depression. I couldn't have made it without meds at that point, also because I didn't know how to manage it. I got paroxetine, the therapeutic dose is from a minimum of 40 to 80 drops. I took about 50. Now after hard work and now that I better understand acceptance I still take 10 drops, which hardly does much to be honest, but I'm doing great, rebuilding my life, healing traumas, have a good career finally, and I can say I've never felt more satisfied. I still get fears (usually health related) from time to time and extreme stress can get me down the wrong road making me suffer some somatic symptoms(it's a common outcome for health anxiety and gad in recovery, the other outcome is depression, which I see as a worsening of the problem), but it is much easier, I have no more emotional breakdown, It is now 2-3 years I don't get any panick or anxiety attack. I often feel joy and I'm grateful for what I'm accomplishing. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to share with you that it's possible to live a good life. It took me 6 years to arrive at this point. And I don't know if every single piece will be fixed, maybe yes, but I can tell you that sometimes people can feel normal again, some don't even use meds, but everyone is different and some has bad life circumstances or underlying problems which impair recovery, it's never our fault. If you are willing to try this path remember that there are lot of setbacks and it takes time and lot of effort to know yourself, it also takes a relaxation technique for sure to use for emergency because your brain isn't able to relax automatically anymore at the moment. Also, sometime psychotherapy, even if seems to do nothing, can speed up the process. If life circumstances won't be hard when you are vulnerable the most, you will get better faster for sure.
