Magic Mushroom a cure?

I watched a documentary on YouTube about magic mushrooms being a possible cure for anxiety and depression. Has anyone ever tried this?

Nope. But I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. I smoke MJ every now and then. Helps me, but i don't depend on it.

I did it once a few months ago with a therapist. It was helpful. It is not a ‘cure’, but it is enlightening.

How long did you feel good for?

It wasn't like that. What it gave me was an insight into my own suffering and it bolstered my confidence that I would be okay. Over the following weeks (and even lately) vivid memories from my life kept floating up. Things I hadn't thought about it years. This is likely due to regeneration in my hippocampus and I think that the medicine helped that along. Note: the therapist advocates repeated 'journeys' with the medicine but I decided to go on an SSRI so that's not an option for now.

So you cannot be on an ssri and do mushrooms?

Not safely, no. The risk of serotonin syndrome is too high when both are done together. You need to have been off of SSRI's for at least 3 months, according to MAPS.

Recent medical research in the U.K. has discovered a close link between the uptake in recreational drugs and anxiety and depression. Sometimes people experiencing these conditions could trace it to a single use. If your brain is messed up the last thing it needs is mind bending psychoactive substances. Of course, those whose lifestyle is based around recreational drugs will use every argument they can think of to reject the British Medical Association's findings.

When I was teenager I knew people who used to use mushrooms and I would say it is more likely to increase anxiety and paranoia than help. Some would also get scary 'flashbacks'. Not to mention the hallucinations etc..which can obviously be frightening and dangerous. I would steer well clear!
