4 weeks on 5mg of escitalopram

I’m pretty sure my anxiety has been brought on by my 1 1/2 year old because he doesn’t sleep. I’m still nursing as well. He is up every 2-4 hours. Then Xmas happened, brother getting divorced, grandma having a stroke and then passing and my family one after another getting sick and naturally, me having to take care of them. Started having a weird out of it feeling... I guess you might say... depersonalization? Then of course I googled. Good grief. Symptoms of the disease that had shown up on google started popping up. I developed twitches (mainly in legs) weakness in my legs then arms and then legs and then arms again. Went in, got several blood tests and everything was normal. They chalked it up to anxiety (which I was having along with these weird sensations). Started 5mg of escitalopram. Anxiety increased to the MAXXX! It’s slowly going away. Like every other day is alright. Sleep is weird. Like wake up in the the night with a bit of anxiety and body feeling numb-ish. My arms feel like jelly or like... heavy. I just want to be back to normal. Anyone? Please share your thoughts.

I think it’s important to remind ourselves that it took us awhile to get to that point of heightened anxiety, so it’s going to take us awhile to come down from it. I know I’ve had to remind myself of that. My legs used to feel like jelly and weak. Taking a shower felt like a chore. As time went on and I became less sensitized the physical symptoms started disappearing. You will get there. *hugs*

It’s very hard. I always think I have something serious. These symptoms to me are new compared to other bouts of anxiety.

I know what you mean. It likes to play tricks. Once a physical anxiety symptom isn’t scary anymore it manifests itself differently.

Going through the same as you. My son is 8 months and I have slept at all. I’ve been on lexapro for 3 years now and the last two weeks have been stressful and I’ve been having so much breakthrough anxiety. I broke down and took half a Klonopin last night becusee I feel so off. 10mg is the therapidic dosage so I would see if you can up it to that. I am on 15mg

I’m currently nursing, so I’m not sure that I can really up my dose. It’s only been 4 weeks. Definitely going to try and ride it out for a few more weeks and then I’ll have a chat with the doc.

Do you remember how you felt when you first went on them?

in reply to Teggyherms

The only thing for me going on those meds was weight loss because of no appetite. I felt fine otherwise.

Hi I wondered how you are doing now? I’ve only been on Escitalopram for 2 weeks. 5 mgs for GAD and Days 5 - 11 were awful but feeling better (7/10) now. Worse in morning. I’m supposed to up my dose today to 10 mgs

Need to find the best time of the day to take it. Any advice? Hope you’re doing okay!

I unfortunately had to get off the medication. My body didn’t react to it very well. I was on it for 6 weeks and my muscles were very sore/weak and twitching was non stop. My doc switched me to Sertraline and I’m doing much better!! Try morning time! Night time always made me get insomnia with like every med I’ve been on. If that doesn’t work in a week I’d try a different time. Good luck!
