Hydroxyzine

My doctor prescribed Hydroxyzine 25 mg to help with my anxiety while I finish my taper of Ativan. Anyone have experience with it? Is it effective?

It all depends. Most people I’ve talked to said it doesn’t work well for them, but I think it’s awesome. It really calms me down and fairly quickly. I’m tapering off of klonopin and need and alternative. Hydroxyzine helps! Good luck!

How many mg do you take? Can you tolerate it during the day or does it make you too tired?

I take 1/2 to 1, 25mg tablet. It definitely relaxes you if it works. But the thought is anxiety gets you racing and Hydroxyzine evens you back out. It shouldn’t make you too tired but you may want to try your 1st dose at night time or on a day off to make sure

Anxiety, I’m using it at night to help me sleep as well.

Does the drowsiness goes away? My dr prescribed it for headaches and anxiety. I really don’t need it for anxiety because I have been on and off of xanax and that works for me. My anxiety is driving anxiety. Don’t drive on highways. However, the dr says long time use is not good for the brain.

Oh...forgot to mention, my dr wants me to try hydroxizine, but I read side affects and I am not sure I want to take it. But, if you think it works, perhaps, I’ll give it a try.😊

I tried taking 1 hydroxizine 25 mg once a day. It doesn’t make me drowsy-just tired and sleepy. It does help my headaches, but my concern is driving and I know I will not drive while feeling the sedative affect. Do you recommend a half bill or take it at night and will the affect be the same? I am asking you since you have taken it awhile. Thank you

It works well for me (paired with lexapro) I started at 25 mg & then my dr changed it to 50Mg after a few months.

It's an antihistamine with sedative fx. Similar to benydryl. It may help to relax you a bit. I've taken it to help with sleep before. You may find it somewhat helpful, but it has no similarities to bezodiazepines.

It works for me. Was on klonopin then Xanax doctor took me off of them. Told me to try Hydroxyzine and it works. First two times I took it felt a little drowsy now I’m ok.
