New to the blog, have been on a very high dose of citalopram for 6 years, 60 mg and looks like it has stopped working for me. My team wants me to try mirtazapine. But before that I have to reduce my citalopram. Few weeks ago I bought it down to 50mg Last week I brought it down from 50mg to 40 mg and something unusual is happening. I was very quite for first few days but now my mood has actually improved making me wonder if was actually having paradoxical effects of citalopram and reducing it is actually improving my mood. Has it happened to anyone else. Or what is it?

Yes! I was taking 60mg for two years, after moving and not being able to get my prescription I ended up quitting cold turkey. I was super happy for some reason, but it slowly went away. Then after was a period when it was hard to feel joy, but that slowly went away also. Now I’m kinda leveled out but have smaller bouts of anxiety.
Thank you for the reply Skwirl. Looks like I am not the only person to experience this, still wierd. I am in my second week just spoke to the team and they say to wait for a few weeks before actually going further. I will keep 40mg for a while may be if everything goes well. And may be some day, I might come off it. There seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel.
I am hoping to bring my dose down from 20 after 9 years so it’s good to read that you guys have had positive effects from stopping. I am really worried x
