Kiaplus4, I hear you. As if the feeling wasn't bad enough, then we suffer from fear of anything that might help even for a little while. The minute they say a test with contrast, our minds go straight to what is that warm feeling and what if. Ativan the drug of choice in most emergency rooms. It won't hurt you but we fear the loss of control when given a pill or shot. I've often wondered if in dire pain if I would accept a narcotic because of the fear of dealing with the weird after effects of the medicine.

Do you see how our world gets smaller and smaller by our fears. We reach out for help and then pull back when something is offered because the fear of anxiety is in control.

I understand the embarrassment we feel when breaking down in front of others who may not understand. Let me leave you with this thought. Having worked in the hospital and ER, you couldn't be in a safer place in trying to get help. Doctors and nurses are human and suffer as we do. They understand but can't force someone to do something they don't want. It's very frustrating for them as well, to know they have something that could help you. Maybe on one of those visits to the ER, you will trust in them enough to step out of your comfort zone. Tell them "I'm scared, please take care of me, don't let anything happen to me" The assurance you get may just give you a respite from your emotional suffering for a while. Breathe my friend, you are not alone. :) xx

Thank u so much for this love. You nailed all of my feelings exactly. By the way all of the blood test and ct scan and xray of my chest came back normal. Thank God. But i still feel like there is something causing this. It's not in my head.... The Dr. prescribed me atarax. Im scared but i think i NEED it. Any comments on atarax?

I'm sorry Kiaplus4 that I'm not familiar with Atarax short of it is an antihistamine that can help with anxiety and the central nervous system. Question your doctor and trust

in that he knows what to recommend for you in knowing your health history.

I know you are scared but we have to try something or the vicious cycle of fear will just continue. Keep us updated on your progress. I always suggest (as I do for myself) not to read the pamphlet that comes with the medication. It is too generalized. With the first pill, I always have someone around when taking it. I write down the drug, the dose and the time I took it. Once you've done that, go on with your day. .

I'm proud of you. Good Luck, this may be the start of a new beginning for you. :) xx

Hi Kiaplus4,

I once ended up the ER with severe chest pains. Even though it was my decision to go to the ER, once I was there I was even more frightened. It was irrational feelings, but they were there nonetheless.

They kept me because of my age. I felt embarrassed when all tests came back normal and the diagnosis was nonspecific angina. But everyone was very kind and compassionate.

Ultimately what I came to realize was that I been under stress at work and that was the cause of the chest pain.

I feel better when I can have the chance to confide my fears with other people. Well, with people who are understanding and supportive. I hope you are feeling better, that you got some support and insight, and that you will not feel so afraid if you feel the need to seek help.

Bat.

Sorry for how your feeling, why are you wasting your and doctors time when there are people who are also waiting to see a doctor? A hospital isn't going to do anything for you expect give you medication for which you said you have refused and any other treatment. Sorry don't mean to be harsh with you, I have anxiety it is scary, but this is when you need to get a grip, if you don't things could get worse? I've read about many others with anxiety have said it was a waste of time. Get into a psychiatrist and get medication. Take care
