Xanax is nothing to be afraid of it will help you tremendously. It’s been 50 min since you posted this , my guess is your relaxed or sleeping by now. If so let us know how it worked.

I take Xanax 2 mg 4 times a day. Yes I have had anxiety for 30 years. You should take what the Dr told you to take it’s a very safe medication.

Is very addicting

I look at it this way Anxiety is a chronic condition and a metal disorder that most people will have for ever. It’s an imbalance of the GABA receptors. Xanax fills the gaps of the GABA. If you were a diabetic and needed insulin you would become dependent on it. It’s no different with Xanax if you need it to cope that’s not an addiction, you need it for you well-being. There’s a lot of junkies out there that makes Drs afraid to prescribe this drug for liability reasons. In my view the Drs that won’t give it to people that need it care only about themselves not you as a patient. I’d rather be addicted to Xanax because it helps me get through life not being tortured by anxiety. Maybe it’s addicting because your GABA receptors need it because your missing it. Again if you need it for quality of life then so be it. John

I am also afraid to take Xanax, however, sometimes it's the only thing that can help break up that cycle of anxiety.

I take the lowest amount I can get away with when I do take it.

I look at it this way,... if you end up at the ER, or hospital, they are going to give you something like Xanax, to get you stabilized, and then send you home. So as long as your not abusing it, it's fairly safe.

Hang in there...

Your correct they typically give you Ativan another benzodiazepine that kicks in quick as well with a short half life. The reason Dr’s don’t like prescribing Xanax and Ativan is they both have a half life of about 6 hours leaving you potentially needing another dose. klonopin and Valium have very long half life’s and Dr’s are more inclined to prescribe those benzodiazepine. They take longer to kick in though that’s the draw back. When your in need of a quick relief Xanax and Ativan are the go to benzodiazepine’s.

Yeah one of the worst things about anxiety is being afraid to take the meds that can help us... and ones like Xanax have developed such a bad reputation, ruins it for people who really need them.

Although I have the same issues as Tamka39, i.e. I hate to take medication and have the fear of addiction, I agree wholeheartedly with what you wrote above, John! Anxiety causes many additional health issues and it seems ridiculous to have to suffer through all that daily and further ruin your health and life when taking medication properly could relieve so much and provide quality of life. I am in the process of reassessing.... Thank you for your input! Anna

Good evening Anna

It’s understandable that people have fears of taking medications , seeing Dr’s ( white Coat syndrome), and the list goes on. I think it’s great that your revisiting if your going to take your prescribe medication. I can tell you once you start taking it for a few days you’ll forget about your fear of the medication. If the medication is right for you and you notice a marketable change with your anxiety. I wish you the best. John

I fully agree with Timmypliskin.

The SSRI's drugs are very safe to use for our anxiety/stress control.

1Mg x2 or 3 times a day is safe.

I usually take a1Mg at night when I know my tomorrow's work schedule will stress me out.

I am not sure whether I should be taking it in the morning instead.

It does help me relax during my lectures.

Wishing you the very best of health.
