Ummm, I don't believe Prozac has a sedative component, which is what people with anxiety need. Effexor is often used to treat anxiety disorders. You would need to talk to your doctor about which medication is right for you, and get a prescription. Often times, it takes a little experimenting to find the one that is best for you.

everyone is different in response to meds. Prozac increased my anxiety at first. It took awhile for my body to get used to it and then it helped with my anxiety. Zoloft had an immediate calming effect on me. Effexor is a snri and works on norepinephrine in addition to serotonin. Most of these meds need a few weeks in your system to be effective unless you are prescribed a benzo, ie attivan, xanax, but doctors don't like to use them long term because they are very addictive.

Personally, I did not like Prozac. I stayed on it for 5 weeks and it had a very strange feeling for me. I mostly would feel like I was disconnected from everything. I just take xanax now as needed

Careful of Effexor. Also known as Side-effects-or. Very hard to titrate off of.
