Helping someone with anxiety?

What are some things I can do to help my girlfriend with Anxiety and Depression disorder. What can I do to get her out of a sad and helpless mood?

What can I do to calm her down when she has a panic attack?

If anyone could share some of their coping strategies, that would be great. Thanks!

I only have advice for the question about what to do when she has a panic attack as i have my own personal experience of this but not the other question sorry.

So I recently started having panic attacks, and I have found that it really helps me when my boyfriend distracts me, for example starts telling a funny story or a memory of ours that was really funny, or even just asks me a thought provoking question.

At first he’d try to calm me down by the usual breathe and you’re ok etc, but that didn’t help because when I have the panic attacks I don’t feel ok at all I feel like my throats closing up and I’m dying like having a heart attack so even when he was trying to help and put my mind at rest, saying thinks like you’ll be ok etc is still focusing on the panic attack.

However, when he just starts talking about something funny or interesting and we’re laughing or in deep conversation, I forget all about the symptoms of my panic attack. Because afterall panic attacks are a mental thing that causes physical symptoms, so distract the mind and the physical symptoms start to ease off too.

Everyone is different so it is hard to say if this will help your girlfriend but that’s what helps me so it’s worth a try!!
