I am no doubt scared of death/dying I hate people even talking about it or looking at funerals or anything. So I’ve been reading online that some folk say “when your time is up it’s up” now that really scares me as I don’t understand how u can just die even being healthy I’ve read articles of people knowing and saying things liek “I’m not gonna live much longer “ then they DIE!! Like is this true ? I’m really concerned cause I sometimes feel like

I’m just as scared about death but it’s more so others I’m not scared of myself dying it’s more how I can live my life without someone but I do believe that there’s something better when people do die and that makes things a little easier if you can try picture it that way

Hi Amyxox, You are certainly not alone in being afraid of death/dying. We all do from time to time but when it becomes a focused obsession than it needs to be addressed. To live in fear each day is not living, it's only existing. Death is a part of life. We are born, we live and then we all must die. (In our own time) Nothing we say or do can prevent this from happening. If we are busy living, we will not have time to think about dying.

Being sick or being well has nothing to do with the end of our lives. We could just have finished getting a clean bill of health, walk out of the doctor's office and get hit by a car. A morbid thought but a reality. There are some things in life we have no control over.

We are all given so many minutes to live. The thing is not to be on alert with each and every minute that goes by but to sit back and enjoy the journey. It sounds like your Anxiety is working overtime and getting you stuck in this time frame. Anxiety has a way of playing over the same negative thoughts until we are paralyzed with fear in going forward. Start working on your anxiety, changing those negative thoughts to positive ones. Look for all the things around you that are alive and beautiful.

Talking about this fear is a start. Pretty soon it won't be a taboo subject and it won't make you fear it as much. We are here to help you through this. xx

This sounds like me. I have the most terrible fear of death and it has almost become an obsession. My brother died a year ago and he wasn't very old but he didn't look after himself he didn't need to go but wanted to because of depression . This affected me but what triggered it was when David Bowie died. Your advice is good

Hi Djonmars73, I understand how it does affect us when famous people die. It's like a loss of our era when life went more smoothly. An Innocence per se. We can't accept changes in our lives. I'm terribly sorry about the loss of your brother. Losing siblings, parents is a hard pill to swallow. But it's a fact of life. When my mother died 8 years ago, I felt like being the older sister, I was now the first in line. It's made me appreciate each day in life. I wake up each morning and smile and say out loud "I'm Back" :)

I look at all the positive things in my life and all the beauty around me. I'm thankful for what I have. Just one look at the news and you know how grateful it is to have another day. Djonmars, we're not alone in walking this earth. Next time the fear comes over you, look up at that big beautiful sky and know that you are sharing it with others from the forum who care.

Make tomorrow a Great Day! Keep coming back to the forum. It's been too long that you were away. Life is Good... :) x

Hello Agora1 your reply is particularly relevant today as it is my mums 90 birthday. I am going to the care home to have lunch with her. Unfortunately she has dematia but is still beautiful . My brothers death was due to his struggle with mental illness and he could not find happiness. I love life but find it hard to cope with constant anxiety and fear, ironically I do live quite a normal life. I socialise a little, go to work and look after myself so your words really do lift my spirits thank you 😊

Djonmars73, embrace the day on your mums 90th birthday. Even with dementia I'm sure that deep in her heart she can feel the love from you. We take one step at a time. Not looking down the road or what might be. We only have today, it is a gift and that is why it's called "The Present" Live in that moment. Happy Birthday to your mum! A day to celebrate life. :) x

I know how you feel. Even reading this post was had for me. I always had a fear of death but for the last few months it's become very bad although lately my obsession has improved. But it took alot of energy from me to think that way it even stole sleep from me. I was so scared to fall asleep and I also avoided friends that would talk about it. I know exactly how you feel.

Someone once told me you don't die alone. That there will be someone you loved that has passed holding their hand out to you and you will be comforted by them. That there will be no fear. That has comforted me ever since. I hope this will calm your fears also.

If you worry, you ARE GOING TO DIE.

If you don't worry, you ARE GOING TO DIE.

Choose wisely!

there are two things here:

First of all the prophecy of yours that you are gonna die soon is just another thought fear has created in you . Its not like that dramas or movies where the hero knows when death is near lol

Anyways , The phobia of death is called thanatophobia (i gues i spelled it right) , These people are extremely fearful of their own death or their fear is triggered by seeing death of someone as it reminds them of this inevitable truth . Sigmund freud , the famous psychologist who started the psychoanalysis for the first time(you can even google him u will find a lot of help) , describes that the fear of death is not caused by the death itself ,but it is some else deep issue in the subconcious mind that the individual hasnt resolved yet . Eventhough you might not be aware of what is actually there in your subconcious , it is running all your thought patterns , something has happened in the past that disturbed you and everyone else including me in this forum that has made us uncertain about the safety of our identity as an individual and thus our brain is acting in a primitive way to protect us through fight or flight , which are symptoms of anxiety . Another thing is the reason that why doesnt individual fear the death itself , because no one knows death , what it actually is , your subconcious mind has no idea of existence of a thing called death , why? because it hasnt experienced before , it only believes something that has already happened .

I got into to much detail here , hope it helps
