URGH😡

So the past couple of days have been so good! My anxiety hasn’t been so bad but then last night I woke up suddenly with a horrible feeling of fear and couldn’t get back to sleep and about an hour ago I was having a couple of twinges in my chest which set off a massive panic attack, I was thinking I’m either going to have a heart attack or a stroke. It’s such an awful thing to think, I know. But I really can’t shake the thought out of me head and the more I think about it, the more the symptoms feel real. I just wish these chest pains would stop coming on. I feel completely exhausted and just want to feel like my old self again 😣 I’m going to Las Vegas in April and I’m so worried my anxiety is going to be bad over there!! Can anyone recommend anything to help?!

Hi Aimee,

Those night episodes are the worst! I had two really bad attacks eight weeks ago. Do you have a reason to be concerned with your heart? Any heart issues in the past? I did the same thing and immediately thought about my heart for weeks. I finally went to the cardiologist and they did ecg, ekg, blood pressure, stress test and heart ultrasound. Everything checked out great! You may want to get your thyroid checked. It's common in women to have thyroid symptoms and may be causing anxiety or heart palpitations which would make your nervous system react this way. I'm sure you will get it figured out and feel better before your vacation to Vegas. Call that doctor!

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

I have no reason what so ever to be concerned about my heart I really don’t know where it has all come from it’s so strange but now any little symptom I’m over thinking and just stressing myself out even more! I have never in the past been like this. I have been to the doctors and they just try and fob me off every time saying it’s just anxiety! I’m sick of it I just want some reassurance that I’m OK maybe that way I will feel a little better, maybe this time I will request all the above you had? I went for a blood test last week which I think they checked for my thyroid. Do you think I should ask for further tests?

That's up to you. I've been going to so many appointments in the past weeks and every little sensation in my body was kicking off a new phobia so I'm going to stop. I figure if there's something really wrong with physically with my body, I wouldn't just be walking around, going to work and functioning. Go check out the link below. I found this site while doing some research last night. It will help you ease your mind and understand what you're going through. Check out the blog section at the bottom of the home page. It's so useful and speaks in our language as the author used to have what we currently do. Trust me, you won't be able to stop reading it! Good luck.

I used to have that allllllll the time

It’s sleep anxiety. You’ll be sleeping fine then you’ll wake up panicking in your sleep then you’ll try to go back to sleep and as soon as you hit the point to where you’re about to drift off, BOOM you get instantly freaked out for no reason.

It sucks I know but my best advice (or at least what worked for me) is to keep yourself awake, don’t try and go back to sleep. Stay up, put on a movie or some TV and just wake yourself up a bit and wait until you’re calmed down a bit before trying to go back to sleep.

I hope that helped !

It’s so frightening, it’s the worse I dread going to bed just incase I wake up with it! It’s happening quite a lot but I think it’s because I fear it! I will try and take your advise and try and stay awake until I calm down. Thank you so much x

Yeah ! What I also suggest is checking out “Yogi” brand teas

They have so manny different kinds

The stress relief , anxiety relief , bedtime , and peppermint. All of those are really good for helping ease mental tension when you’re panicking or freaking out !

Hello Aimeelplant,

So sorry to hear you’re feeling this way 😞 these symptoms are an awful burden that we bare and it’s hard to know what’s real and what’s symptomatic sometimes.

Have you tried breathing exercises or CBT? If not then I think it’s worth trying, and also challenging negative thoughts works well sometimes, just replace them with more positive thoughts, tell yourself the chest pain isn’t going to be a heart attack or stroke, and remember it is only a symptom of your anxiety. I often just tell myself that my chest pain is just my chest muscle having a spasm and that usually calms me a bit. Just take it easy and don’t push yourself too hard. Take care!

Hey, thanks for you reply!

It really is, I think when it happens maybe this time it’s real, maybe this isn’t just anxiety and then that just sets off a full panic attack!

I’ve tried the breathing exercising which do help me to calm down a lot.

I always try and push my negative thoughts out my head but then I find myself thinking even worse thoughts then. I’m reading a book called the DARE response which is helping me but sometimes my anxiety just makes an appearance at the worse possible times. Thanks so much for your reply, I really appreciate it x

You’re very welcome. Sometimes I take 5HTP capsules, they’re really good at helping me to stay calm and balanced. I don’t know if they would be worth trying 🙂

I’ve never heard of that technique, I might have a look at it and see if it helps 🙂

I sincerely hope that you find peace with your anxiety and that your panic attacks begin to subside.

Take care xx
