I have just been diagnosed with a hiatus hernia and I know I shouldn't but I googled about this and everything I read was all bad and now my anxiety has gone sky high which is probably making it worse. Is there anyone on here that can give me any information please.
Lizzy, hiatus hernia is when part of the stomach pushes through the diaphragm, it can happen at any age but a third of women over 50 have it. Most people have no symptoms and don't know they have one.
Some people get symptoms like acid reflux, slight nausea, pain and inability to eat large meals all of which can be dealt with by meds. If yhis doesn't work there's an operation using keyhole surgery to correct it.
So either way Lizzy you're in good company and a hiatus hernia that has symptoms is treatable and can be corrected - so no need to worry about it. My wife has had one for many years.
