Does anyone else have tinnitus ? I know anxiety makes it worse . Even when I'm not anxious it can still get loud . Wondering if anyone who experiences it found anything that helps them. I have found meditation can lower the noise for me at times

I don't know if it's the same but I get this thing where my ear goes muffled then it's a high pitch *beep* sound it's really scary and I often think I'd go deaf or something

Hmm I'm sure it's scary but it doesn't sound worrisome to me , esp if it's very brief

Hi Robyn, unfortunately I have that too. I had my ears checked for hearing problems or anything causing the ringing and there was nothing wrong with my ears. I have thank God perfect hearing but the ringing continues. When I have anxiety it's much worse almost feels like my ears going to pop. Actually now that I think about it, it started when I first got anxiety three years ago. I never thought of it before but I'm sure there's a correlation because everything is affected by the nerves including the ears. Your'e right meditation works and sometimes just getting deep in my mind and focusing on the ringing and making it go away actually worked. It doesn't work all the time but it has worked. When I'm enjoying something, having fun, I can't hear it so it either goes away or I'm just not focused on it. For sure when we focus on something or keep thinking about it, it gets worse. There are videos on youtube that teach you how to rub the back of your ear on your neck and it worked for me although it was a temporary fix but it worked. If you've had your ears checked then it's probably anxiety related. If you haven't had them checked, you should just to make sure it's nothing more serious. Hope you feel better.

I'm hearing impaired , been for most of my life . It's genetic . My siblings (all hearing impaired) and even mom who is deaf gets it but they have it in both ears and I only have it in my left ear , which has been itchy for years . I use to get occasional tinnitus and now it's mostly constant since end of June . Sometimes it gets so loud that my mind wanders to maybe there's something more going on . I know everyone with health anxiety automatically thinks brain tumor even tho it's rare .

What YouTube video did you watch ?

I went to ent and mention the audiologist said my hearing went down significantly in left ear and that maybe I'd get an MRI but the ent just prescribed ear drops which I haven't touched as of yet

Do you take Magnesium ?

Nope I never did . Not sure if I should google it tho 😜 do you have a brand recommendation ?

in reply to RobynC

Magnesium protects the inner ear from damage and is used by many with tinnitus.

Magnesium glycinate Dr's Best brand is the the best one around. It is a natural mineral.

My physio has told me my ringing in the ears is made worse by neck and jaw tension as my muscles are really tight. Googled it and yes it's linked to the higher pitches due to muscles etc around bottom of the skull. So the more anxious or stressed I am that does make it worse. I'm also due an ent appt after vertigo in May and my ears were inflamed back then. It's a miserable thing...mine comes and goes but it's just something else to,deal with

Are you talking about "spikes"? It's when tinnitus gets louder or seems louder for no reason. I panicked the first time. Tried deep breathing the second time. Ignored it the third time. Ever since then, I just continue doing whatever I'm doing and the spike goes within 5-10 seconds. The first time it seemed to last a minute. If yours is tied to anxiety, definitely try things that help anxiety e.g. deep, slow breathing, positive thoughts, etc.
