Stopped taking anti depressants.

Hello

Anyone came off their anti depressants and found that they now can't control their temper? I stopped taking my fluoxetine because I've been on it for close to 20 years now I think, I was in my early/mid teens, I'm now 33 and just stopped. I do feel the depression is better, but I am so quick to anger and my temper is really bad. It's already been several weeks now.

Anyone else experienced this? Does this wear off?

I would seek advice of a GP, it's generally best to get help as you come off them . I was one who got suicidal on it so didn't stay on it long enough I'm afraid to compare notes.

Yeah I came off with my doctor's advice and we set it up together, a schedule to come off gradually over a period of a couple of weeks. I've now stopped completely.

Chances are it will ease over time. I've been addicted to drugs and when you have taken them for so long your body adjusts to them and then you come off and your body and mind go haywire for a while. I'd say maybe six months and you'll get used to being back to being you. You might still have a slight temper but you could ease that with Magnesium glycinate.

I remember that there's a good month lead in with anti depressants, so if you've been on it a while I'd imagine it takes at least that long for it to completely leave your system and maybe the same again for the body shock of that to wear off and reach an equilibrium, if not longer.

Great that you feel the depression has gone xxxx

Hi there!

I have had a similar experience.

I have come off my anti depressant too after about 15 yrs being on them. For the past 8yrs i have been on Cymbalta.

With-drawl side effects are common.

I have seen my GP and have discussed this matter, and also looked up the symptoms related to what i was feeling.

Its actually a with-drawl syndrome.

It can very on how long it lasts.

I too have had terrible anger, mood swings, temper, irritability and fear, anxiety, uptight, etc. (just to name a few). Along with physical symptoms, such as hot flushes, brain zaps, tingling , numbness, over breathing, etc. Sends my body into fight or flight mode.

I feel better physically, but mentally, not so much, but i am working through it. Seeing a psychologist, counselling and regular visits with GP to monitor my progress and see how things are going.

I would suggest to see your GP , and go from there. =)

Hope this helps.

It might ease up over time, but I would definitely seek some guidance. I have found anger to be a bear and not easy to control sometimes, but it is possible. I had to get some help with control though. Now I just take a lot of deep breaths and shake my head a lot. Lol, I used to say what I thought but my filter is taking over most of the time. Getting help or a way to release the energy might help.

Hi, I see that this was posted some time ago and wondered how you were feeling now? I stopped taking fluoxetine two weeks ago and wondered how long withdrawal symptoms lasted for?
